Celebs You Didn’t Know Were In Same-Sex Relationships
Love is love, regardless of sexual orientation. As society becomes more accepting of the LGBTQ community and begins to understand the intricacies of sexual identities, these celebrities have come out of the woodwork to admit that they’ve also questioned themselves at times too. They’ve had to explain over and over again that no, their sexuality isn’t a phase, and no, they aren’t attracted to every person in the world— they just have the potential to be attracted to both men and women. People like Mick Jagger and Hugh Hefner were just experimenting, while others have found a connection and are still with their same-sex partners.
Katy Perry
When she came onto the scene with her first hit, "I Kissed A Girl," in 2008, Perry merely explained to the press that she kissed a girl at 19 and that was it. She’s since dated many famous male celebrities and was married to Russell Brand.
But in 2017, Perry spoke at the Human Rights Campaign Gala in Los Angeles and opened up about that time she kissed a girl: "I speak my truths and I paint my fantasies into these little bite size pop songs. For instance, ‘I kissed a girl and I liked it.’ Truth be told, I did more than that."
Charlize Theron
If you’ve seen 2017’s Atomic Blonde then you’ve seen Charlize Theron get extra close to actress Sofia Boutella. Though they were just acting, their love-making scene was pretty convincing. Though Theron maintains her heterosexuality, she has admitted to experimentation.
Theron appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where host Andy Cohen straight up asked her if she has been with a woman. Theron said, "It should be normalized by now… When I was young, yes. I fell like when you’re young, you’re kind of exploring it all, but it was pretty clear that I really liked dudes."
Hugh Hefner
Hugh Hefner is known for always having a busty blonde or two on his arms but even for him, that must have gotten a little old at times. At one point in his life, he took it upon himself to try out a new type. Hefner biographer Steven Watts wrote in Mr. Playboy: Hugh Hefner and the American Dream that Hef was in Chicago one night when he was propositioned by a man and he took up the offer.
In 1999, Hef told The Washington Post, "There was some bisexuality in the heterosexual, swinging part of my life. I was testing the boundaries, just knocking down walls."
Guillermo Diaz
Guillermo Diaz is that actor who was in just about every movie or television show that had a Latino gangster character, but most recently, he has a recurring role on ABC’s Scandal as Huck.
Throughout his career, Diaz has never kept his orientation a secret if the subject ever came up. But it still comes as a surprise to many who mostly see him in his typecast roles. He told Out magazine in 2011, "I went to school in the Bronx. I learned to constantly try to cover up the fact that I was gay. That facade of being somebody I’m really not just to protect myself definitely helped with acting."
Anthony Wayne
People frequently fall in love with co-workers. It makes sense, especially given how much time is spent together at work. In the case of Broadway star Anthony Wayne, he became inseparable when paired with Kendrell Bowman when they were working together on a musical called "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real: A Sylvester Concert."
Bowman was in charge of directing and designing costumes which caused the two of them to come into contact a lot. They were a great fit in their personal lives as well and are still together as of today.
Mick Jagger
Would you believe that Mick Jagger has been involved with a man? Would you believe that on at least one occasion, that man was David Bowie? That’s apparently the case, according to multiple sources who’ve said they caught the rockstars in bed together in the past.
The two legends respected each other as artists and forged a close friendship, but many who were around at the time say there was something more. Ava Cherry, one of Bowie’s backup singers, once said "Mick and David were really sexually obsessed with each other. Even though I was in bed with them many times, I ended up just watching them…"
Cate Blanchett
In 2015, Cate Blanchett received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her lead role in Carol, where she portrays a new divorcee who engages in a forbidden affair with another woman.
Blanchett’s role in Carol, however, wasn’t her first experience with lesbian relationships. When Variety asked her if she’s had relationships with women in the past, Blanchett admitted, "Yes. Many TImes." But as for if she would label herself as a lesbian, Blanchett said, "I never thought about it… I don’t think Carol thought about it."
Wentworth Miller
Wentworth Miller starred as Michael Scofield on Fox’s Prison Break and is a recurring villain in DC’s television universe. In 2007, Miller denied rumors that he was gay and that he was dating fellow actor Luke MacFarlane.
In 2013, however, it took Russia’s harsh anti-LGBT policies for him to come out and stand for what is right. Director Maria Averbakh invited Miller to attend the St. Petersburg International Film Festival, which the latter turned down. Miller wrote, "I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly."
Carmen Electra
After Baywatch babe Carmen Electra appeared in Joan Jett’s music video for "A.C.D.C." many people speculated that the two were in a relationship. This came just after Electra’s divorce from musician Dave Navarro, so the rumor wasn’t too off base.
Electra even allegedly told The Sun that she had a crush on Joan Jett since she was eight. But when asked about the rumors herself, Joan Jett danced around the topic. "We became great friends after [the video]. She’s a great person. I love Carmen. She’s beautiful and a wonderful woman," Jett told After Ellen.
Clive Davis
Record producer Clive Davis is the man with the golden ear, having shaped popular music for nearly 50 years. From the mid-’50s to the mid-’80s, he was married to two different women and fathered four children.
But the most momentous part of his life was perhaps coming out as bisexual in his memoir, The Soundtrack of My Life. He revealed that after the end of his second marriage, he found a whole new part of himself after engaging in relations with other men. In 2013, Daily Mail reported that Davis said he was in a monogamous relationship with a man since 2004.
Sarah Paulson
American Horror Story fixture Sarah Paulson may have a thing for dating people significantly older than she is and it doesn’t matter what their gender is either. In 2016, people were thrilled to learn that Paulson was in a steady relationship with actress Holland Taylor, who is 32 years her senior.
Paulson told The New York Times that she doesn’t label her sexuality to avoid getting "skewered" if her dating habits changed. She continued, "If my life choices had to be predicted based on what was expected of me form a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that."
Chely Wright
Historically, the country music industry doesn’t offer the warmest welcome to all LGBT couples. That’s why Chely Wright publically dated fellow country artist Brad Paisley, while behind closed doors she was living with her lesbian partner.
Internally, she was struggling with her feelings, as well as the public’s perception of her. Wright bravely made the decision to come out as a lesbian in 2010, stating that she wanted to come out to free herself from the burdens of living a lie. On April 6, 2011 she married her partner Lauren Blitzer, who is an LGBT rights advocate.
Tom Hardy
Tom Hardy may be the hunk of almost every girl’s dreams, but that also means he’s been in the dreams of boys too. Some lucky dudes in the world have even had Hardy all to themselves at one point.
"I’ve played with everything and everyone… I’m done experimenting but there’s plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I have definite feminine qualities and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine," Hardy told Daily Mail in 2010.
Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato was suspected of being bisexual after alluding to hooking up with a girl in her song "Cool for the Summer" and openly-gay actress Ruby Rose seemed to confirm those suspicions. Rose said on Instagram, "I’m like the one person Demi has slept with that didn’t sell naked photos of her."
Lovato denied the rumor, telling Complex in 2015, "I don’t feel like any of my past or future – when it comes to relationships that may have happened or not have happened – are of any concern to anybody… You can believe what you want, but no, I was not in a relationship with her." Still, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
Jillian Michaels
In March 2016, fitness trainer Jillian Michaels proposed to talent manager Heidi Rhoades, but in 2018 the couple announced that they’ve called off their engagement and have been split up for a while.
Still, Michaels and Rhoades have two adopted children together, who they continue to co-parent and it hasn’t always been easy. Michaels told People that her daughter once told her that she thought "gay was gross." On how she handled that situation with her daughter, Michaels said, "It’s these kinds of moments that bring you face to face with all of your deep, dark issues, where you don’t handle it well."
Jodie Foster
Jodie Foster surprised the public when news broke of her quiet nuptials with girlfriend Alexandra Hedison in 2014. Some people were surprised to even learn that Foster was gay, but she didn’t really make a big deal about coming out.
At the 2013 Golden Globes, Foster said, "I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago… If you had been a public figure from the time that you were a toddler, if you had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal against all odds, then maybe then you too might value privacy above all else."
Samira Wiley
Samira Wiley played Poussey Washington on Orange is the New Black, where she also happened to meet her wife, writer Lauren Morelli. However, at the time, Morelli was unsure of her own sexuality as she was recently married to a man.
Wiley told BUST magazine, "I remember those first months with her, trying to figure out her journey with her own sexuality… Feeling like she picked me as the person she was going to talk to about all of it. And it wasn’t sexual, it was just like a friend. There was something deeply intimate about that, whether there was sexual tension there or not." What did Pink have to say when people asked her if she was bi-sexual?
Colton Haynes
Arrow star Colton Haynes publicly came out as gay back in 2016 and was swiftly swept up in a whirlwind romance with celebrity florist Jeff Leatham. The pair married the following year in Palm Springs.
At the time, Haynes said, "The really great thing about being with Jeff is that since we got together my relationships with my friends have gotten better, my family relationships have gotten better. When you learn to really love someone, it’s completely life-changing." Life did end up changing by May 2018, when Haynes filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.
Matt Bomer
Matt Bomer has been making women swoon since rising to fame on NBC’s Chuck, but unfortunately, Bomer is taken. He came out while accepting an award at the Desert AIDs Project in 2012 saying, "I’d really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry… Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment."
Not only was it revealed that he had a partner, publicist Simon Halls, but he also acknowledged the three sons that they share. In 2014, he also revealed that he and Halls had been married for three years.
Pink
Pink has been with husband Carey Hart since 2006 and the couple has two children together. But before getting tied down, Pink has been involved with a woman.
Commenting on her past relationship with actress Kristanna Loken, Pink told Contact Music, "She kissed me and she tried to dominate me and I will not be dominated by anyone." But in 2017, Pink told The Guardian she wouldn’t let her past trysts label her: "I don’t need you to put me in a box or to figure me out or to figure out what I am, ’cause I don’t know yet. And I never say never."
Cameron Diaz
On Watch What Happens Live, Cameron Diaz told host Andy Cohen in 2014, "Yes, I have been with a lady … You didn’t ask explicitly how I was with a lady, but I have been with a lady."
Diaz denies labeling herself, saying that people should be able to admit their attraction to other people despite gender. "I can be attracted to a woman sexually, but it doesn’t mean I want to be in love with a woman. If I’m going to be with a woman sexually, it doesn’t mean I’m a lesbian. We put these restraints and definitions on people, but it’s hard to define," she told Playboy in 2010.
Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart famously dated her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, that is until she was caught cheating with the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. After all that fizzled out, K-Stew was known to have a dalliance or two with fellow female celebs and came out as bi-sexual.
Stewart told Elle UK that she realized this: "Actually, to hide this provides the implication that I’m not down with it or I’m ashamed of it, so I had to alter how I approached being in public. It opened my life up and I’m so much happier." As of 2018, Stewart has been dating model Stella Maxwell.
Cara Delevingne
English model and actress Cara Delevingne has been openly bisexual since she’s been in the public eye. In June 2015, she confirmed that she was in a relationship with musician St. Vincent, AKA Annie Clark.
In September 2016, the pair parted ways. It was speculated that Delevingne later dated Paris Jackson, but that was not confirmed. In 2019 she announced that she was in a relationship with the actress and model Ashley Benson.
Cynthia Nixon
Actress and activist Cynthia Nixon is best known as Miranda from Sex and the City. She has two children with her former husband, a schoolteacher named Danny Mozes.
She began dating activist Christine Marioni in 2004, and the two were engaged in 2009. In 2007 she stated, "I don’t really feel I’ve changed. I’d been with men all my life, and I’d never fallen in love with a woman. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. I’m just a woman in love with another woman." Nixon and Marinoni were married in 2012.
Evan Rachel Wood
Before she played Dolores Abernathy on HBO’s Westworld, Evan Rachel Wood appeared in shows like American Gothic, Once and Again, and Thirteen.
Wood has dated a few famous men including Jamie Bell and Marilyn Manson. She has also been involved with actress Katherine Moaning. She came out as bisexual on Twitter in 2011. She married Bell in 2012 and the two had a son together before separating after 19 months of marriage.
Billie Joe Armstrong
The frontman of the band Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong publically came out as bisexual in a 1995 interview with The Advocate. He says, "I think I’ve always been bisexual. I mean, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in."

Sia
The Australian singer and music producer Sia brought us smash hit after smash hit. Her sixth studio album debuted at No 1 in the United States.
Sia discussed her sexuality in a 2008 interview: "I’ve always dated boys and girls and anything in between. I don’t care what gender you are, it’s about people. … I’ve always been… well, flexible is the word I would use." Fittingly, Sia has a tattoo on her hand that reads, "Whatever Dude."
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie has been romantically linked to several famous men, and she was one half of the most famous heterosexual couple in Hollywood history. But just because she married (and then divorced) Brad Pitt, doesn’t mean she’s not attracted to women, too.
In 2003, she said, "Of course. If I fell in love with a woman tomorrow, would I feel that it’s okay to want to kiss and touch her? If I fell in love with her? Absolutely! Yes!"
Mel B.
Scary Spice, AKA Mel B., married and had children with producer Stephen Belafonte. The pair went through a bitter divorce in 2017.
Mel B. has stated that she is attracted to both men and women. From 2002-2006, she was in a relationship with another film producer, Christine Crokos. To Gay Star News, she had this to say about the relationship: ‘It wasn’t experimentation. I fell in love with a woman for five years. An experiment doesn’t last five years."
Mara Wilson
Former child actress Mara Wilson had her fair share of time in the spotlight. She’s best known for her work in Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire.
After the 2016 Orlando shooting, Wilson came out as bisexual on Twitter. She posted a picture of herself at a queer nightclub as a teen and wrote, "I ‘used’ to identify as mostly straight. I’ve embraced the Bi/Queer label lately." She later admitted regretting the timing of her announcement. "I often wish that I hadn’t done it then because I got accused of taking advantage of a tragedy for personal attention," she said to Lamda Legal.
Ke$ha
Kesha is an American singer-songwriter whose songs were recently nominated for several Grammy Awards.
Kesha has been heavily involved in LGBT activism and performs marriages for LGBT couples as an ordained minister. She discussed her own sexuality in a 2013 interview with Seventeen magazine: "I don’t love just men. I love people. It’s not about a gender." In 2019 she spoke to Attitude and said, "It has never occurred to me to care about a specific gender, or how someone is identifying, to make me wonder about whether or not I’m attracted to them."
Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore first captivated audiences as the young Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and went on to star in films like Poison Ivy, Boys on the Side, Scream, Ever After, Charlie’s Angels, Donnie Darko, and more. She has been engaged (to men) five times and married three times.
Although she’s been in several serious relationships with men, in 2003 she told Contact Music, "Do I like women sexually? Yeah, I do. Totally. I have always considered myself bisexual,"
Aubrey Plaza
The deadpan comedy stylings of Aubrey Plaza made us fall in love with her as April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation.
Plaza dated Actor Michael Cera for two years after they met on the set of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. She came out as bisexual in an interview with The Advocate in which she says, "I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it." Since 2011, she’s been dating the film director Jeff Baena.
Alia Shawkat
We first encountered Alia Shawkat as Maeby Fünke in Arrested Development.
In an interview with Out magazine, she said, "I was a tomboy growing up, and I remember my mom asking me when I was 10, ‘Are you attracted to boys or girls?’ I said I don’t know. Now I consider myself bisexual, and I think balancing my male and female energies has been a big part of me growing as an actor."
Amandla Stenberg
Amandla Stenberg is an American actress who played Rue in the Hunger Games series and Starr Carter in The Hate U Give, among other films.
Stenberg has identified as non-binary and bisexual, although in an interview with Elle in 2016, she said, "Bisexual is a word I am not too attached to […] it implies a dichotomy that doesn’t take into account trans people. So maybe pansexual is more accurate for me." In 2018, Stenberg dated the singer known as King Princess.
Amber Rose
American Model and actress Amber Rose began dating Wiz Khalifa in 2011. They married and had a son together before they divorced in 2014. Prior to her relationship with Wiz Khalifa, Rose dated rapper Kanye West for two years,
Rose has stated, " I can be in love with a woman, I can be in love with a man. As far as humans go, I definitely find beauty in everybody."
Michelle Rodriguez
Michelle Rodriguez was engaged to a man in 2000, but that relationship ended before they got married. She has also been romantically involved with Vin Deisel, Zac Efron, and Cara Delevingne.
In 2013 she told Entertainment Weekly, "I’ve gone both ways. I do as I please. I am too curious to sit here and not try when I can. Men are intriguing. So are chicks." She also indicated that she hoped being open about herself would inspire others. "Maybe by me opening my big fat mouth like I usually do and stepping up and owning who I am, maybe it might inspire somebody else to do the same," she told Gay Star News.
Alyson Stoner
You might not recognize her at first, but Alyson Stoner was the kid in the 2002 Missy Elliott video for "Work It." Stoner has also been in movies like Cheaper by the Dozen and the Step Up series.
In March 2018, she penned an article for Teen Vogue in which she says, "I, Alyson, am attracted to men, women, and people who identify in other ways. I can love people of every gender identity and expression. It is the soul that captivates me."
Ezra Miller
Ezra Miller is an acting powerhouse. His work as Kevin in We Need to Talk About Kevin was both terrifying and impossible to look away from. More recently, he played Credence Barebone in the Fantastic Beasts film franchise and the Flash in Justice League.

Sara Ramirez
Sara Ramirez’s Grey’s Anatomy character, Callie Torres, came out as bisexual after falling in love with another lady doctor. She had previously only been in relationships with men on the show.
Ramirez took a cue from her on-screen counterpart and came out as bisexual herself in 2016. In recognition of her extensive work for LGBT rights, Ramirez has received the Ally for Equality Award by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
