Since the beginning everything was wrong for these guys: four brazilians playing basketball in a country full of "Ronaldos" and "Zicos", of course it got worse after a couple of years; quickly they turned to music. As they loved doing it the wrong way, instead of playing samba or bossa-nova they sold it to rock'n'roll calling themselves Wry.
They were rather pleased of always taking a wry direction, things were going really well for them in the rock scene in South America. Since appearing on MTV in 2000 things took off for them in their native Brazil. They released three albums on the label Monstro Records, their debut Direct, the second Heart-Experience and the critical acclaimed Flames In The Head from 2006, produced by Tim Wheeler and Gordon Raphael; Wry shot three videos: Red Shoes, Jesus Beggar and In The Hell Of My Head the latter is being shown on MTV Brasil from this month onwards.

When everything was looking too normal and straight, they asked for trouble. After the Brazilian Goo Goo Meginee Tour 2001 and I Love And Hate You Brazil Tour 2002 they flew out to London, the city they love as much as Sao Paulo and have based themselves there for the foreseeable future.
Wry have played with many international bands on Brazilian tours such as Man Or Astroman?, Superchunk, Mudhoney and Make Up. In the UK they have played with The Subways, The Rakes, Air Formation, The Early Years and The Cribs and are well respected by all. Tim Wheeler (Ash) saw them live and fell in love, producing three new tracks for his brazilian friends. Gordon Raphael (The Strokes) also produced three tracks after hearing a demo the band sent to him.

Surprisingly they got some radio air play in the UK having one of their songs played on XFM recently by Claire Sturgess. The Fly, Logo, Rockfeedback.com, Disorder and Drowned in Sound gave them great reviews in the last year.

Wry listens to Sonic Youth, Bloc Party, My Bloody Valentine, Razorlight, Walkmen, Os Mutantes and U2.
