A little about us...
In just a year and a half, Sarnia-based rock band Wellington has accomplished a considerable amount of independent success. Their debut E.P âAlone, Sober and Waitingâ was quick to sell out of its first two pressings and their music has been featured in an independent film.
After meeting in high school, lead singer and guitarist Kirk Ramsay and Lead Guitarist Chris Stewart began writing songs together in Chris' garage every day after school. In their final year of high school the two met drummer Josh Cunningham and soon realized he shared their musical ambitions. Bassist Tory Walko joined later and Wellington was formed.
In early 2007, Wellington sent their demo to Sprowt Studios and was promptly taken on as a client. Wellington soon began preparation for their first serious recording endeavor. Wellington's E.P. featured three original songs and its release was marked by a packed show at The Industry in Sarnia. Hundreds of people packed the venue and many CDs and t-shirts went home with them.
Fresh off the release of their EP, Wellingtonâs desire to play live shows took over and they embarked on a mini tour of Southwestern Ontario. It included stops in Windsor, London, Kitchener, and Chatham to name a few. Audiences quickly took notice of the bandâs material, which seamlessly combines hook-filled guitar melodies with visceral power and it wasnât long before they were being requested back.
Despite the thrill of playing live shows, the band was also aching to record all the material they were unable to do in their first endeavor at Sprowt Studios so they began recording their first full length album. After months of hard work and countless hours of practice, Wellington emerged from the studio with an album they were both proud of and grateful to be finished. âMy Darkest Hourâ managed to capture the bandâs vast range of musical interests as well as the raw emotion that goes into each song. It could very well be the breakthrough theyâve been waiting for as it reveals remarkable development for the band in both songwriting and musicianship.
Wellingtons' growth has been steady and shows no signs of stopping. They have the drive and determination to overcome any and all obstacles that may stand in their way and they will continue to work hard at accomplishing everything they possibly can and will do so for as long as they can foresee.
