Vertical Ascent began in late 2005 as Cipher, consisting of 3 members: Pedro, John, and Nathan. Early 2006, they added lead guitarist Chad Perry and renamed themselves Saline (rooting from a Bible verse that says that we are the "salt" of the earth). They were basically new to the whole process of being a band and making music, but they worked themselves up to a few gigs, in which they played their current hit, "Blind." They got alot of credit in their shows, even though they were still searching for a bass player, and this search lasted a little over 6 months. In the meantime, they later discovered that there was another Christian rock band by the same name. In June 2006, they played a show at the Blueberry Festival in Poplarville, MS w/Jones Unleashed, by the name "Vertical Ascent." From then on, that remained their name. They later underwent a major crisis: their lead singer, Pedro, was moving to Oregon, which left guitarists Chad and Nathan to take the mics. As they started over, they created a new sound: an edgy, alternative rock sound that would make one think of 12 Stones, Pillar, Trapt, Day of Fire, Chevelle, and even some elements of Rage Against the Machine here and there. As autumn came around, they found Scotty McCranie, who became their bass player. As time went on, they played more and more gigs, and now you can find them rockin' the Net (Crossgates Baptist Church--Brandon, MS), Cups in Brandon, and other places around the Jackson Area. They have written plenty of new material, and hope to complete the "Pre-Launch Sessions" EP by sometime in the Spring of 2007.
