Bio:
Van She formed in the early part of 2005 on a shared love of French house, 1985 and slap bass, a pop music monster informed by all the music from 1960 to tomorrow, with nothing to lose and an unquenchable desire for free booze. Equal parts new wave, electro pop, garage rock and ecstatic now pop, Van She exist in a place where bands like Phoenix, Zoot Woman, Daft Punk, Radiohead and the Human League rule the roost, where irony has no place and heaven sounds like pop music from outer space.
Since signing with Modular Recordings in June 2005, the band have gone on to release a 5 track EP in Australia, make a video for Kelly, remix the likes of The Presets, Klaxons and New Young Pony Club, play around 100 shows in less than a year with the likes of The Presets, Cut Copy, End Of Fashion, Wolfmother, Annie, The Avalanches, Gerling, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Faker, Digitalism and Grandmaster Flash, and are equally at home on indie rock festival stages and in warehouse raves, marking them as one of Australias most promising newcomers and one of the worlds more exciting new prospects. With their self-titled EP and the Kelly 12 about to be released in the US and UK, Van She have found themselves fans in the shape of modern day messiahs like Tiga, Trevor Jackson, Alan Braxe and Cut Copy, and their debut album due in early 2007 is more eagerly awaited than the next chapter in the Rocky film series.
As to how it might sound no one yet knows, but if their EP and remix work so far is anything to go by, it could well be the missing link between the rocknroll clubs and the mirrorball, the devil and the dancer, Around The World and New World Record, Supertramp and Super Discount. We for one cant wait.
