"they sound like Motley Crue's souls look like: dark, sexy, sleazy and totally shameless. They sound like they'd sleep with your girlfriend/wife/mum and film it for you as a birthday present."
-Metal Hammer UK
During their 5-year career Vanity Beach have already played sold-out club shows in Northern Europe, The Baltic States and The Russian Federation, earned numerous features in international major rock magazines and been a 'Featured artist' on MySpace.com, while receiving praise from childhood heroes such as Dave Mustaine (yes, of Megadeth) who helped the band during their formative years. The band has sold thousands of CD's and gathered a worldwide cult following.
All this without any support from managers or record labels
The band was earlier in the year tipped off as one of the hottest newcomers (alongside bands such as Aiden and Bring Me The Horizon) by Metal Hammer UK. Features in other British magazines such as Kerrang!, Burn Magazine and Powerplay Magazine followed. After years of working with a determined D.I.Y. attitude, the band decided to turn to famed producer/film composer Johnny Lee Michaels (The 69 Eyes) to take the music to the next level. The 2-month studio session resulted in the 3 tracks that can be heard on the new single; the infectious instant classic Garden Of Cruelty, the in-your-face Bitch In A Body Bag and a reworked version of the anthemic fan favorite BATCAVE (We Come Out At Night).
Hailing from Helsinki, the band consisting of four childhood friends (J, vocals, Bones, bass, M Vain, guitar and Juno Forth, synthesizers) unified by a love for quirky 80s music was formed in early 2002 after the demise of Juno's and J's former band Cum. "We're all childhood friends and therefore we all know each other in and out, so it's really easy working together" explains synth operator Juno Forth.
The music itself could be described as an eclectic mix of late 70s/early 80s Goth Rock, Batcave, Post Punk, Industrial, New Wave and modern Metal. "We listen to everything from Blondie to Suffocation to Skinny Puppy to hell Roy Orbison. We know our shit and are therefore enabled to draw influences from a very broad palette and create something new. I'm not saying we've re-invented the wheel, but at least we're bringing something new to the table" concludes frontman J.
A reputation of being a killer live act has been established by playing everything from small club shows to major venues, from opening up for bands like Swedish pop act; Shout Out Louds to playing Scandinavia's biggest metal festival, the Tuska Festival. "Anything can happen at a VB show, anything..." explains Juno. Energy-filled, explosive performances la early Nine Inch Nails may come as a surprise to many, from a band that looks like the bastard offspring of Visage and Sex Pistols. Responding to this, the guys simply quote Vince Neil of Mtley Cre; "Just cuz we wear lipstick, doesn't mean we can't kick your ass!". A website created by Pixelghetto Studios (Type O Negative, Slipknot, Dimmu Borgir) was launched back in 2002, and is now receiving thousands of weekly hits.
The critically acclaimed debut CD; 'Nights Of The New' was released independently by the band back in April, 2003 and the sales exceeded all expectations. The first printing of the CD sold out only within a couple of weeks of it's release! 'Nights Of The New' featured such fan favorites as 'Fight Through The Night', 'Girls On TV' and a collaboration with Canada's The Birthday Massacre; 'The Knight Murders'. An extended version of the album was released in Australia in October 2005 through Electricult Records/MGM. Since the release of NOTN, the band has released two singles, an EP entitled Vengeance and two music videos. The latter of the two being a video for the song BATCAVE taken off Vengeance, which was directed by snowboard filmmaker Jaakko Itaaho (Mack Dawg Productions) and featured a guest appearance by Finnish cult icon M.A. Numminen. The video earned a Featured video spot while the EP was streamed in its entirety on MySpace (MySpace Exclusive Listening Party / a feat normally only achieved by bands on major labels).
Recent sold-out shows in Finland, Sweden, Russia as well as the response to the brand new material posted online has proved that the buzz is definitely on and great things are to come. Plans for 2008 include releasing the long awaited, highly anticipated new album and a lot of touring.
