GABBY ALIPE IN REHAB

blog post
i'm back home in cebu. just came from my E.N.T doctor (ears, nose & throat) for a check-up. my voice has been fucked up for the past 2 weeks. it got really bad for our last 4 gigs in manila before going back home to cebu. I could hardly sing. even worse was when i got home to cebu cuz i could barely even talk. we've been so busy playing gigs to promote the new album...my throat gave in.

i had to go through an endoscopy. for those of you who don't know what that is...it's a device my doctor uses to look at my throat. it's this long, thin tube with a small camera and light attached to the tip which my doctor inserts through one of my nostrils and guides it alll the way down to see the insides of my throat. GROSS i know.

it showed my vocal chords. it was swelling and this time evidence of nodules were seen growing on it. nodules are little bumps, "bukol" sa tagalog. and that's a really bad sign if you're a vocalist. what happened to me is common among singers that use their voice performing regularly. bad for us cuz we usually play really late, so often times we don't get to properly rest...i guess it took it's toll on me.

i had to cancel a lot of gigs for the coming weeks because i need to rehabilitate my vocal chords. my doctor has instructed me to take 2 weeks of complete voice rest, meaning i can't even talk for the duration of the rehab period. i'm also under a lot of medication to help speed up my recovery. i have to go back to the doctor after a week to see the progress of my vocal chords. if the nodules get worse or won't heal as expected through the medication...i may have to undergo surgery to take out the nodules. I DON'T WANT IT TO REACH THAT POINT!

i was diagnosed to have extraesophageal reflux & dysphonia. it's caused by an upper respiratory infection. i had a fever with really bad cough and colds, instead of taking rest i had to continue playing gigs because we have to promote the new album. i continued trying to sing in my normal voice and style through all the gigs despite being sick even though my vocal chords were already swollen. in the end it really messed up my vocal chords.

i guess it's the price i have to pay for doing what i love the most. sometimes it just doesn't go as smoothly as planned and you encounter bumps on the road...in my case, bumps on my throat...hehe! but i'm hoping to get better fast. i'm taking my rehab period and what i have to do seriously. i apologize to all the dubistas who where at our last few gigs when my voice was fucked up...you guys deserve great performances from us, all the time. i'm sorry for letting you guys down on those nights. i'm only human. my throat reached it's limit. but i hope to get better and go back on the road as soon as possible and make it up to you guys.

i hope the dubistas can help me pray for a speedy recovery. so the band can get back on the road and perform again. so far we've been enjoying all our gigs & performing the new songs. we really love this new album and hope you all are not disappointed with it. we wanna thank alll the dubistas that showed up during the album launch in eastwood, and showed up at our other events. thank you for buying the album and buying the original! thanks for not being part of the piracy problem & for being TRUE supporters of not just urbandub but of the ENTIRE OPM INDUSTRY. we are truly grateful! daghang salamat! see you all very soon!
