Born and raised in East Los Angeles, California. UPGROUND offers a fresh new musical blend of ska, reggae, punk, and cumbia which they define as LATIN SKA. A variation of many sounds, sure to appeal to all. Danceable, Skankable, and highly enjoyable. Wonderful combinations that will make you move and leave you wanting more. UPGROUND began their musical journey early on, first at home and then at school. In 1999, eight childhood friends expanded their musical journey forming UPGROUND. They have been playing locally for 4 years and through their music these young men have developed a bond that translates into pure, raw musical energy. Their explosive live performances, displays their dedication, and pride not only to their music and the band as a whole, but to the communities they live in. Since its beginning UPGROUND has been committed to it surrounding communities playing at many fundraisers and benefit concerts. In a short period of time they have been fortunate enough to share the stage with such acts as Chris Murray Combo, The Irie Beats, Mike Parks and The Bruce Lee Band (featuring RX-Bandits), Voodo glow Skulls, Los Kung Fu Monkeys, The Debonaires, King Django, Deals gone Bad,Ozomatli, Quinto Sol, B-Side Players & La Banda Skalavera, to name a few. They also had the privilege to open for The Killers and The Chemical Brothers at the X-BOX/E-3 convention at The Shrine Auditorium. UPGROUND continues to play and expand their fan base. They just finished recording their Debut EP and is currently in studio recording a full length album. As many of the bands that have influenced them, Ozomatli, The RX-BANDITS, , Buena Vista Social Club, Bob Marley, Black Uhuru, Sublime, NO Doubt - UPGROUND offers you a commanding horn section, along with an explosive percussion section. Their music forces you to move and groove in your place.
