That is the core belief that shapes the words and music of UNION OF LANTERNS, acoustic indie pop rock troubadours hailing from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Armed with acoustic (and sometimes electric) guitars, the high-fiving, thought-provoking duo of Thomas Scott and Darren Watts pack a lyrical and melodic punch that leaves you drooling for more.
Inspired by so many bands and artists before them, Union of Lanterns learned what they could from their predecessors. They were students of music, and their teachers were many great, and diverse bands and artists: Radiohead, Coldplay, Oasis, Elton John, Tori Amos, Dashboard Confessional, Travis, Dave Matthews Band, and many more. The sounds and sentiments of their pop and rock forefathers were not overlooked, and the band absorbed as much of it as they could while writing their first album.
The result? The band's first, totally independent, self-produced album, "Truth (If You Want It)", is a unique blend of catchy lyrics and hooks, original and exciting acoustic guitar riffs, awe-inspiring harmonies, and soaring melodies that make you melt and want to embrace the same enthusiasm for life that the band possesses. It is a collection of 14 very diverse songs - songs about love, addiction and suffering, peer pressure, and an undying optimism for all things good in life... as the title track would suggest, "if you want it, you can have it"
So prepare yourself... you are bearing witness to the spark that will soon erupt into an unstoppable wildfire - an awesome musical energy that will make you want to pump your fist in the air and fight the good fight. This album is the first of many great things that you can expect from the Union of Lanterns, a band that has no limitations, and no intention of ever being satisfied with what they've already accomplished. This is a band that always works to make things better than they've ever been. And that's the truth (if you want it).
