Nashville has never been short on melancholy and passionate singer/songwriters, but rarely has one come to town with so much passion for the melancholy as Tres Crow. This Michigan to Nashville transplant finds most of his inspiration for his music from the sadder moments in life. Songs such as "Our Love" and "Catch That Mystery" discuss death and the ways in which people deal with the aftermath of losing a loved one. Even more upbeat songs like "Pink Elephants" and "Souls" are filled with such honestly plaintive lyrics that the music is lent an ironic quality. Yet, Tres' music seems to be aimed at pointing out the sorrowful in order to help the listener recognize those moments when life is worth living. Like the old adage, "You need the sour to recognize the sweet," Tres' music combines both in a delicate mix that is part Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, and Dashboard Confessional, but entirely his own.
