Update: added some photos. Take a look.
Update: Susan has been officially added to the band, and our picture has been updated to reflect that. She's going to do a lot of the singing from now on, and may do bass occasionally.
Greetings, All You Awesome People!
Hey guys, thanks for visiting our purevolume page. We're just a little music-by-correspondence trio from western Washington (the state, not the city) and northern California. We started by performing a cover of Relient K's "Gibberish" at a school talent show when Joel and Ryan were both at the same Bible college last year. (We got our name, "Tonalation Phonomere" from a line in that song.) Then Ryan gave Joel one of his electric guitars when he finished his year at the school and went back home to Washington. Joel, who up 'til then had only a single acoustic guitar to his name, was thrilled and bought an amp as soon as he got a chance. Then we started recording and mixing over the internet via the unholy combination of megaupload and an old version of Reaper. After a little while, Joel's sister, Susan, joined to be our lead vocalist.
So far we've finished one cover and one original instrumental number, and are working on two or three more songs. We probably won't be uploading any covers due to various concerns, but hopefully someone out there will enjoy the stuff we come up with ourselves.
--Tonalation Phonomere
is Joel's sister. She puts up with Joel and Ryan and does some of the lead vocals.
Joel
is from western Washington State, which he thinks is the coolest place in the world. He plays mostly rhythm guitar and rhythm piano (aka "fun with chords"), but can do all right at easy bass lines. Ryan is being awesome by helping him learn lead guitar. He likes singing, but is really bad at it unless it's all low notes. His favorite bands are Five Iron Frenzy, Switchfoot, Anberlin, and Tin Circus. BarlowGirl's pretty cool, too.
Ryan
is from a town in northern California, which he thinks is just about the hottest place on the planet, especially in the summer ;) He sings, plays bass, guitar, keyboard drums, piano, mandolin, and basically tries to play any noisemaking device he can find....and maybe someday will own a noseflute! :) Some of his favorite bands include, Illustrator, Petra, Code of Ethics, Whitecross, Digitalvibe, and the O.C. Supertones
Ryan wanted to try to run a clean guitar signal through a pedal or effect (I forget) post-recording, so I did a short chord progression with a few variations in rhythm and sent it to him. He went all crazy with it and looped it and added a ton of stuff. I think it sounds pretty cool. --Joel
