The Thieves play rock, plain and simple; they live rock, hard and fast; and they know rock, through and through. And though they wear their influences on their sleeves - they've been called AC/DC on acid, Pink Floyd on uppers, The Who on a pub crawl - their vibrant debut album, Tales From The White Line, is not just a nod to rock n' roll's past, but also a wink to its future. Hailing from Oxford, England but now living in Los Angeles, the trio fuses the best of British music with the dust-stained swagger of California, yet the 12 engaging tales of their self-imposed exile included here are neither pretentiously trendy nor soullessly polished. Instead, The Thieves rawk like a proper British band should, delivering an infectious blend of garage rock, power chords and Britpop melodies and harmonies. Soon after hopping the pond and completing their move to America, the group entered Hollywood's Royaltone Studios (Audioslave, Rage Against The Machine) with producer Chris Brown (Radiohead, Muse) to record the four-track White Line EP in late 2004. While originally intended only as a means to raise the band's profile Stateside, the release earned overwhelming acclaim from national music publications and major newspapers. Two subsequent nationwide tours - including a stop at South By Southwest in 2005 - increased the group's exposure even more. Soon, four tracks were not enough to placate the growing demand, leading the group to return to Royaltone with producer Brown in the spring of 2005.
