the Story Changes TOUR JOURNAL

TWO-PIECE ROCK AND ROLL PARTY.

Update: After touring as a three piece with a lot of friends helping out on bass over the touring cycle for Dinosaur, we've been playing live since the Summer 08 as a two piece and absolutely love it. Through loops and sweet wizardry, the bass is still there along with the keys and various noises that are a part of our recordings, but never previously in our live shows. We're having a lot of fun and the response at the shows has been amazing. Come see for yourself.

On their second full length album, the Way of the Dinosaur, the Story Changes deliver an emotionally charged and energetic effort molding modern influences like Jimmy Eat World with past loves Jawbreaker, Seaweed, and Quicksand, among others. Produced by Jamie Woolford(the Stereo, Let Go, Man Alive, the Format), the album captures the energy of the band's live show while still bringing the song's strong melodies to the forefront. After spending the better part of two years on the road supporting their debut album Last Night a Rock Band Saved My Life, the band cites life on the road as not only an influence lyrically, but also in the overall tone and direction of the new album. Singer/guitarist Mark McMillon notes: "During the touring for the last album, we noticed that we always tend to play the more aggressive songs live and the more straight forward pop songs from our last album weren't making their way into the set. When we started putting together songs for Dinosaur, we decided that we wanted a slightly heavier record that was primarily based on how we sound live".

The end result is a smart and edgy pop record highlighted with honest sincerity.

"3 out of 5 stars... aggressive emo-rock... well recorded... The Way of the Dinosaur is enjoyable" - Alternative Press Magazine (January 2008)

"pop-rock at its finest. ..vocalist Mark McMillon really carries the album with a voice that’s appealing and adds a new characteristic to the music that surrounds it (much like Anthony Raneri does in Bayside), and the lyrics are refreshing and up-beat, in the scene where depression and loathing is the hot topic (pun intended)." - Absolute Punk Dot Net

"Thank goodness there is occasionally a band that isn’t afraid to break away from the trends and just plays good music. Think about it, what does the music scene need more of right now -- more copycat bands that either whine way too much and lamely toss screams around while they're whining... or more bands that remember when Saves the Day and The Get Up Kids were trend setters? If you didn’t say the former, stop reading and go listen to your Fall Out Boy mp3s for the bazillionth time. ...we need more albums like this that break slightly outside of the mold of what is currently popular in the scene, simply to provide some diversity for those people who actually do want something different." - Decoy Music

"This Powerful album is much heavier and less overtly pop-punk than previous releases from this Dayton-based trio. ..memorable cuts like "Don't Fall" and "Needle" retain the group's trademark sing-along choruses and penchant for relatable lyrics." - Dayton Daily News

"...in your car, windows rolled down, singing along with every word. As soon as the CD began spinning, I was suprised. ...passion for music is obvious in this album. Fast-paced rock music is what these guys are about, and frankly, I am starting to buy it." - Emotional Punk Dot Com

"The Story Changes has blended together modern punk with heartfelt and deep lyrics. There is plenty to enjoy on this album if you are a punk enthusiast or enjoy high energy music that makes you think. Bravo to the boys from the Buckeye State you’ve made quite a statement with this record. The Story Changes includes a depth that sometimes is lacking in this genre of music." - The Phantom Tollbooth

"The Story Changes is energetic, with engaging poppy punk stuff that reminds me of Cadillac Blindside, Jimmy Eat World, and Foo Fighters." - Skratch Magazine

Since forming in 2003, the Story Changes has worked hard with lengthy and consistent touring. They've done dates alongside Motion City Soundtrack, Hawthorne Heights, Bayside, the Forecast, Limbeck, Roses are Red, Hit the Lights, the Jealous Sound, A Wilhelm Scream, and Reggie and the Full Effect amongst others, as well as dates on the Van's Warped tour in 2008, 2006, and 2004.
