TheSpeaks' infectious sound and amazing live performances are quickly creating a dedicated underground following within the local, national, and international music scene â with fans that can be found as far as New York to Los Angeles and even Europe and Asia.
TheSpeaks continue their success in music competitions and are continually turning heads in the music industry. After having a banner 2003 year and HUGE success by winning two of the largest music competitions on the east coast (JAXX 2003 Battle of the Bands & 2003 Hard Rock Café "Ultimate Altitude Buzz" DC/Baltimore Finals) and placing 2nd in the nation for the Hard Rock Competition, TheSpeaks followed these performances by showcasing at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go and at the Sunset Room for the 3rd annual Dragon Roar's Music Conference in Los Angeles for record labels. Most recently, TheSpeaks won the 2004 DC 101 "Last Band Standing" against the best bands in the area and performed at the DC 101 Chili Cook-Off with national acts Chevelle, Switchfoot, the Donnas, Jimmy Eat World, and Thousand Foot Crunch. These competitions were won as a result of weeks/months worth of live performances and a combination of both judge/fan votes. â an achievement in itself, but unprecedented for a rock group of all Asian-American descent â just further proof that music truly has no color!
"I came across The Speaks unexpectedly and I was blown away by the band's music. They have the unique ability to make all their songs sound like an anthem that every listener can connect toâ¦they sound like what rock music should sound like." -- Greg Roche, DC101 on air personality
"TheSpeaks give us commanding rock with a grunge edge. "Solitary" has all the power of Pearl Jam, but without the whining."-- Washington Post
"The band's anthemic tunes and sheer energy have earned them a rabid fanbase that packs the house wherever they go. It's been a long time since I've seen a rock band draw as well as TheSpeaks -- they're definitely headed for bigger things."-- Jeferey Jones (OnTap Magazine)
