THE RIVALRY

Rock / Progressive

The civil war between whats natural and whats challenging, whats progressive and whats pop, simplicity vs. complexity, tension, release. Opposing forces in a symbiotic relationship: thats what a rivalry represents; thats what The Rivalry is.

A dual-guitar/bass/drum assault of angular riffs and abrupt rhythmic shifts that burst into skyscraping choruses. Theyre loud, theyre aggressive, but theyre also melodic and dynamic; their music is visceral and passionate, but also sensitive and honest. Their sound is the natural confluence of each members diverse interests and tastes, and its that continuous internal conflict that fuels The Rivalry.

Shot from the suburban wastelands of Long Island, NY The Rivalry are Ryan Siegel, bassist Michael Sadis, guitarist Keith Allen and drummer Billy Rymer. Formed in May of 2005, by September The Rivalry were opening for Alien Ant Farm for every show on their two-month long national tour. On stage, The Rivalry perform with both raw urgency and frightening precision. Armed with their debut EP "Break the Silence" and the chance to play to packed venues every night, The Rivalry seized the opportunity, cultivating a dedicated following across the country while still holding down their homebase of Long Island.

Upon returning from the road The Rivalry quickly immersed themselves in writing what would eventually become the bands debut LP, "Emergency Broadcast." Produced by Mike Cosgrove of Alien Ant Farm and mixed by Chad Sexton of 311 at The Hive in California, the independently released Emergency Broadcast is 36 minutes of raw, no-frills hard rock, featuring everything from the nihilistic Kill Radio and Revolution to the anthemic Pride and This is Serious. The album earned The Rivalry a spot opening for 311 for the bands Summer Unity Tour in 2007, an experience that forced The Rivalry to grow as a band, offering them a little taste of what they have been working so hard to one day achieve.

"Touring with 311 taught us so much about being a band," says Siegel. "Playing on a higher level, playing to packed houses every single night, but also being an opening band and facing those challenges. Weve accomplished a lot in two years, but those gigs showed us how much further we have to go. But were not stopping. Cant stop. Wont stop."

Still developing as a band and as musicians The Rivalry are always looking to push the limits of their sound. In the Fall of 2007 the band released their self-titled second EP, which finds the band experimenting with a number of different styles, revealing a budding pop sensibility that can only bring their sound to more people. Still, while that may be the point, it cant be the intention.

"It always comes back to writing the music we want to hear," says Siegel. "We want our music to express the entire spectrum of emotion in ways everyone can relate to and connect with, but our intention is simply to write the best music we can possibly write. If we get sick of one style well transition into another one and it will still be The Rivalry. We define ourselves."
