The Mainlines were a local Cleveland rock band who neither played very many shows nor stayed together very long. Their sound was a blend of whatever they happened to be listening to at the time, anything from Velvet Underground to Hot Snakes to Black Flag. The shows they did play, especially towards the end of their run, were frenzied and energetic, but really that's pretty much how any band tries to describe themselves, right? For now listen to the recordings at right. They're all live recordings from...sometime late winter/spring 2005 at WJCU in Cleveland, Ohio and capture some of the live dynamic of the band from the urgent vocals and guitar lines that always feel just this side of under control of tim k., the overblown, driving basslines of bryan, and the insistent, hammering drumming of tim p. The overall sound is a bullet train that, at any time, could come careening off the rails.
