June 2
After far too long we have a full band (guitar, bass & drums) recording of our restructured "trade life". We have also recorded two other songs which are in the final stages of mixing. This version of "Trade Life" is not a final version but just a version to help us find a singer and a keyboard/guitar player. To that end please download "Trade Life" and if you are a singer sing on it and send it back to us. If you are not a singer then pass it on to someone who is. It would be idea for our singer to live or at least be willing to move to Austin, Texas or some where within driving distance. For the next few months maybe more as long as you can get your vocals recored and maybe come down to Austin for a week (we have places you can stay) that will work because we are focused on recording our debut album right now.
If you message us here I can send you a version with Jonathan (bass/back up vocals) singing the melodies we have written for "Trade Life" to give you a sense of what we are looking for. Below are the lyrics.
Trade Life
verse
Smell stale sweat; / stains & fist debates.
Could words have failed our pride?
This wood is worn, / warped with beer & knife
what about the kids & wife?
chorus
trade life for a bitter dying hold
and fight for another inch of home
trade life for freedoms night
push on closed eyes and fight, fight fight
verse
Fell cold blood / and these bullet riddled souls.
What is worth this price?
This ground is broke / with bitter trees & snow.
what about those back home?
chorus
trade life for a bitter dying hold
and fight for another inch of home
trade life for freedoms night
push on closed eyes and fight, fight fight
Are the wars that I'm fighting really worth all the blood that I'm spilling and giving away
And who has the answers for me
Are the wars that I'm fighting really worth all the blood that I'm spilling and giving away
And who has the answers for me
trade life for a bitter dying hold
and fight for another inch of home
trade life for freedoms night
push on closed eyes and fight, fight fight
Lots of other new and exciting things on the horizon. Keep checking back!

A Brief History
The Abusive Band Teacher.
My journey to becoming the guitarist and primary song writer for the last sunrise began during my last year in middle school. I was playing the flute for the middle school band and I will just say that my band teacher "became" abusive and I subsequently left the band, got the teacher fired, sold my flute, and bought a guitar.
Learning to Write
During High-school I went in and out of a few bands as back up and/or lead guitarist but never really found one that I fit in. During Christmas break my sophomore year in college I bought a Pro Tools M Box to capture the many songs and riffs I was writing. When I came back from break I took a song writing class and from then tell now I have written and thrown away three or four albums worth of material while learning how to craft songs.
the last sunrise is born
After college I moved to Austin in pursuit of my then girlfriend and now wife Andrea (Andi). After getting married this summer and settling into our new life I was introduced to Jonathan (bass) and Lon (drums) and that brings us to this weekend.
Day 3
We are basically done with the writing phase for 5 songs including a monster epic. The first four songs on the album are going to be:
1. Intro*
2. Trade Life
3. Drum Shine*
4. White*
Then some where later on the album we will have a song divided into two or three parts. Here is how it breaks down
Paranoid and Dangerous*
I. instrumental song*
II. Tonight's Enemy
III. 5/4*
* = temporary name
As of now we only have "Tonight's Enemy" and "5/4" written but we want to have an instrumental song on the album some where and that seems like a good place to me.
The thought is that in between "White" and "Paranoid and Dangerous" we will have a few songs and maybe one or two afterwards to round out the album.
Lyrically I am done writing lyrics for "Trade Life" and "Tonight's Enemy". When I was writing the lyrics I did use some of the forum postings as inspiration. If you want to be involved in the shaping of this album lyrically all you need to do is share your ideas on violence with us through our forum.
With any luck over the course of the next several months you will get to hear a good bit the culmination of all the bands work to bring this songs to life.

Picking up the Bass!!!
Well, when I was a freshman in high school I had friends who had picked up guitar
and played with each other every once in awhile. Well one day I decided I wanted to
be a part of the group they had started and they already had 2 guitarists but no
bassist so even though I really wanted to play the guitar I chose the bass so that I
would be able to be a part of the group. I played with this group of guys all
throughout high school and into my freshmen year of college but then they all lost
interest. I became a music major so I..ve made music my life.
Meeting Walker and Joining The Last Sunrise
One of the places I played throughout high school was at a church called Christ
United Methodist Church. I played there every Sunday night under the direction of
Josh Masterson. I played with Josh on many occasions and he knew how I played bass.
One day after I left for college I got a call from Josh asking me to accompany him
in a show made up of his original song with a band that he had thrown together last
minute. I agreed so the day of the show I went to College Station and it just so
happens that Walker Walmus was the lead guitarist that Josh picked for his band.
After awhile of practice Walker really enjoyed my bass playing and proceeded to show
me some of the stuff he has written. After that day Walker got my email address from
Josh and emailed me some information about The Last Sunrise and asked me to join as
the bass player. I said yes and we..ve been working together ever since.

Music and Movement
I think living in a family that moved every two years
contibuted most to my musical addiciton. Rather than
venture out with an effort to meet new people, I found
it easier to stay inside and explore my interests,
whether it be drawing, filming or music.
With all sorts of time on my hands, I toyed with the
guitar and piano that my dad frequently played, but
only truly felt at home behin a drumset. I think for
me, it was the joy of such a physical instrument that
really garnered an appreciation to play such a thing.
I had a blast in my younger teenage years, wailing on
the $300 set, and eventually driving my whole family
mad.
Years past, and times changed.. I ended up selling
that set when I decided to move to Spain, instead of
going to college. I spent several years away from
regularly playing the drums, but always held that
craving for them in the back of my mind.
Back to the Muse
But like anyone, music stood tall in my life, and
never seemed to go away. And if you're like me, you
have to really get involved in your interests, not
just sit back and observe. So to say the least, I
bought a set of my own and began playing again -
noticing that my love for the drums didn't go away,
but grew far larger than I had imagined.
A few months later I met Walker and his bandmate
Jonathan and joined what I came to recognize as one
awesome band.

November 4
Well, we aren't going to be able to get a camera out for this weekend but I promise that we will get one the next time we jam. Yesterday we recorded all the basics for "White" and "Trade Life". We also worked on bass and drum parts for "Tonight's Enemy" and wrote a new song that we are jokingly calling "Drum Shine". Today we will run through all those songs and call it a weekend. I am going to try and get Jonathan and Lon to post today before they leave so look out for that.
