What's up with the picture of Ryan and those creepy Beatles dolls? We recently recorded a version of Getting Better as part of 105.5 Triple M's celebration of the 40th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Our song was played during one of the album song cycles on June 3rd. This was an amazing experience! Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible.
We also recently finished up some more recordings at Madison Media Institute, which are the second and third songs on our profile.
Look for new songs from us when we reconvene from our summer hiatus in August. Until then, look for Pete to play some open mics at the Memorial Union Terrace on Wednesday nights during the summer.

Thanks for listening. Enjoy!!!
A Brief History of The Lampshade Orchestra.....
How did we come together? I'm glad you asked. Last October Dave asked me if I wanted to get together and play guitar. Things clicked and we got a good start on what eventually became People Are Dying after just a couple of sessions. We both knew Nick from our classes and so we asked him to join us. Dave knew Ryan, which filled out our four piece band nicely. Ryan was tired of us and had to leave for Spain for a few months, so the rest of the band became the Lampshade Trio for a stint. But now Ryan is back, and we are The Lampshade Orchestra once again.
How did we get our name? When we first started playing, Nick had cymbals but no stands. Being the resourceful guy that he is he rigged up some lampstands (minus the bulbs and shades) to hold his cymbals instead. Ironically, Nick came up with the name of our band on the same day that his new cymbal stands arrived in the mail. In fact, we took a break in the middle of our session that day and saw they had arrived. If those stands had been delivered a few hours sooner we would not have our name. Instead we might have called ourselves something like Battering Ram, The Cohort Boyz or The Reflective Practicioners. Cringe.
Thank you so much for listening and supporting our band and our music. This wouldn't be nearly as fun or exciting without your enthusiasm and interest.

What's up?!
So... we recorded the Beatles "Getting Better" for a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to be played on 105.5 MMM during the weekend of June 1st-3rd. Likely times to hear our song are between noon and 1 on Friday June 1st, or on Sunday the 3rd between 9 and 10 am or 5 and 6 pm. This is a sweet project that involves many talented local artists doing their own interpretations of the classic album. Check it out!

Ahoy-hoy,
Just wanted to (again) thank everyone who made it to the show last Friday. We had an awesome time playing our music for appreciative fans - you all make this whole "band thing" a lot of fun.

Wow! A lot of good stuff has happened lately. We went into a studio to record a three song demo back in December, which was an amazing experience. We liked it so much that we'll be going back in March to record some more songs. Hopefully we'll have a CD put together soon - we're writing songs faster than we can record them these days (which is a good problem to have, I reckon). We recently played some songs in support of a fund-raising event for Operation Smile. We were happy be able to contribute to a worthwhile cause while also getting a chance to showcase our music to a broader audience. We continue to develop as musicians, with Mr. Nick contributing more to singing and songwriting in addition to his drumming duties. Ryan's skill on bass really shines through on the demo songs. Ryan has also written some songs recently, although we have to twist his arm to sing. Dave and I (Pete) continue to craft songs about love, peace and harmony (with a little bit of heartbreak thrown in for good measure). This whole adventure has been a blast from the start, and it's good to see that things are only getting better.
Hope to see you at the show -
Pete

So, we are about to play an open mic tomorrow (I guess today, as I am typing this at 1:20am), and I am real excited. We've come up with some great new songs, and Resonates, an old Lampshade Trio song, has been revamped and added to the Lampshade Orchestra playlist. I love playing at the Union's open mic. It's a nice relaxed atmosphere, with great beer, great people, great music, and I mentioned great beer, right? Hopefully we will get in our four songs that we hope to play tomorrow. You all have to keep checking this website, because The Lampshade Orchestra is gonna keep growing. We have tons of new songs in development, and we will probably be gigging somewhere in the Madison are soon. Good things are here, and great things are coming!
