Take some fuzzy guitars, deadpan out-of-tune vocals drenched in reverb and moe tucker-like drumming and you get The Japanese-Lovers.

Based in San Diego, California the band revolves around the songwriting partnership of vocalist/guitar Ricky Soltero and bass/vocals Aaron Guerrero. With a rotating cast of drummers since 2007, Amelia Perez joined the band in 2009 as the replacement drummer after the departure of then drummer Monserrat Rosales.

Spreading the gospel of minimalism and noise experimentation, the band follows the blue print first laid by the Velvet Underground circa White Light/ White Heat. Their repetoire ranges from almost-pop songs to un-structured noise freakouts.

Often compared to the Jesus and Mary Chain and the Velvet Underground, the band is well aware of the obvious similarities and site the bands as their main influence. Also name checking Galaxie 500, Bob Dylan and Joy Division among others.

Since 2008 the band has released songs as part of compilations for such labels as Series Two Records, O Bosque/Woodland and Workerbee Records.

The band has made their first official release available as part of the Ugly Singles Club for the Workerbee Records label as of May 20, 2010.

Following the release of The Basement Tape, the band have announced plans to release their album entitled Happy Now [containing studio versions of the Basement Tape songs] in the Winter of 2010.
