Members: Courtney Leigh Jones
Start with a blend of pop, indie, and ambient sound, add a hint of soul and you've found yourself listening to a Courtney Jones project: The Getaway Girl. All the way from Lynchburg, Virginia Jones captures a balance of joyful pop and theatrical sadness. Inspired by personal experiences and influenced by artists such as Aaron Copeland and the Beatles, Jones' writing is not only therapeutic for herself, but is something listeners can interpret and apply to their lives, something to take to heart and take home.
Jones is currently performing in the Santa Cruz area, promoting her first EP, "Say It Through The Flowers". This EP contains four songs all written while sitting in her Santa Cruz home at her piano. The EP can be obtained online at purevolume.com/TheGetawayGirl or at one of her shows.
Jones has accompanied other musicians in Wilmington, NC in three different bands: Crayola Sunrise, Rosalyn, and Crimes of Paris. Opening up for bands such as Versa Emerge, The Sleeping, and Sent by Ravens, Jones has experienced the challenge of performing alongside signed bands entailing a variety of genres.
Hoping her music will touch even just one listener, Jones continues to book shows and introduce The Getaway Girl to individuals of all different musical tastes. Upbeat fun songs and slower, heartrending ballads, as well as a mixture of the two makeup "Say It Through The Flowers". When asked what this project is about, Jones says, "It's running towards and away from two things at once, and finding a getaway." Come out to one of her shows and experience the fun of "The Getaway Girl". by Lauren Averitt
