The Origin of The Embassy

This is a culmination of our efforts/ We're trading in sure bets for something better
- Our Time Is Fleeting

The Embassy began, as most great things tend to begin, as a result of boastful arrogance. While attending a particularly uninspiring punk rock show at an equally uninspiring punk rock venue in central New Jersey (a situation which many a lost, misunderstood and perpetually confused college student has found himself in, undoubtedly, over the course of his young life) Matt and Andrew, college classmates and childhood comrades, sharers of ideas, theories, suggestions, and rides to said concerts, declared, out loud, that they too could create the sort of sub-par cacophony that pervaded the VFW halls and basement shows common throughout the Garden State.

Until, that is, the following winter when, while their friends and family members were huddled around fireplace hearths and exposed radiators, Matt and Andrew were warming their fingers on freshly lubricated fret-boards, laying down the initial ideas for what would become the first Embassy recordings. While Matt's guitar riffs and Andrew's bass-lines were indeed face-melting and smooth as warm, melted butter, respectively, the duo realized that without a few more musicians, the project was ultimately doomed.

That is, however, until Spring 2005, when The Embassy emerged, in a manner not unlike that of a butterfly from a cocoon, with two new members in tow. Mike was a clear choice for the band, and his breathtaking guitar acrobatics only solidified his position. Following Mike was Jason , a brash youth from the mean streets of Paramus, New Jersey, who brought with him a keen knowledge of the percussive arts, a devil-may-care attitude, and a seductive stare that could melt icecaps. The lineup now fully realized, all that was left to do was write songs. The freshly minted Embassy began, with the fervor and quiet desperation of Malaysian sweat shop workers, to meld their musical ideas into a beautiful blend of chaos and order, peace and war, scorching guitar solos and clap-your-hands-raise-your-lighters drum breakdowns. When the smoke had cleared, the band had not only created the 12-track tour de force, "The Embassy...Never Sleeps", they had also peered inside themselves and discovered who they really were, a la Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back. However, while Luke needed help from Yoda, The Embassy only had to reach out to one another, a quality that truly demonstrates the bands immeasurable synergy.

Following the completion of their first record, The Embassy set out to stamp its mark on the local music scene. With stops in Montclair, Ewing, and Trenton, NJ and a couple dates in New York City (at the celebrated Arlenes Grocery and Lions Den, launching pad to The White Stripes, Norah Jones, and innumerable others) The Embassy managed to both hone their live performance and increase their ever-growing fan base. The Embassy wrapped up their tour exhausted, sore, yet undeterred from their quest.

This determination is strikingly evident on the bands most recent release, A Culmination of Our Efforts. This EP takes the now solidified Embassy sound to a new level, thanks to a month in the makeshift home studios set up in Montclair and River Vale, New Jersey, and a masterful mastering job by Bill Henderson (Thursday, The Procedure). Tracks like Our Time Is Fleeting and Turn This Car Around showcase the band at their pop-rock finest, combining the hook sensibilities of The Beatles and The Police and the modern urgency of Jimmy Eat World and Foo Fighters to create songs that induce both head-banging and head-bobbing (as well as foot-tapping, and the occasional high-fiving, but whos counting?)

With this new release, (literally) a culmination of their respective efforts, The Embassy looks to be (metaphorically) storming the castle of destiny on their hard rocking horses. "Essentially, we're just four guys who love to write catchy rock songs; if we can find some people out there who appreciate what we're doing and come share it with us, then thats a dream come true," says their guitarist/lead-singer , "and if we end up making obscene amounts of money in the process, then so be it."
