Who are we?

Shannon Dicks: Vocals
Travis Lausch: Guitars
Ray Lavoie: Keyboards/Bass
Tim Larocque: Drums

A progressive hard rock band from Northern Ontario, The Crayola Mishap are bound to be the ones who stand out in the crowd. From their metallic songs like "Break" and "Walk Beside Me", to their epics "Step By Step", "Galactic Sentence", and "In Loving Memory Of...", to their ballads and poppy songs "The Green-Yellow Looks More Like Yellow-Green Than The Yellow-Green Looks Like Yellow-Green", and "Secret Hideout", this band is guaranteed to appeal to more than just one small group of people. And the addition of vocalist Shannon Dicks gives the band a more feminine touch, while still retaining the power of vocalists of bands like Rush and Heart.

The Songs

Just Me (And The Fuzzy Old Radio)
A story song, this 6 minute long track proves to be an enjoyable rock song on any level. The simplicity of the song's music, combined with the lyrical slide guitar melodies of Travis Lausch, make this a fun song to listen to. The lyrics are delivered ably by former lead vocalist Shane Bazinet

School Celebrity

A nearly 8 minute long rocker in the vein of AC/DC. The song is more of a vehicle for Tim's drumming. The guitar's tone is heavily chorused throughout. The only guitar part worthy of note is the "Inspector Gadget" riff.

We're All Freaks

Our pop/rock single-ish piece. The piano part from Ray was originally written for Shane to play on guitar. This recording is kinda rough, as with the rest of them.

Zero

Written in its entirety by Travis Lausch, this may be one of the few older songs to survive the vocalist change (along with "Against"). The 3/4 meter of this song is a welcome change of pace, as is the major-key sound. The chorus was written to have "soaring" vocals, though this version falls short of that a bit. It's still love though
The Bio

The Crayola Mishap are the result of many a practice session between school chums Travis Lausch, Tim Larocque, and Brandon Casson. Bassist Casson left the band, then named Counter, shortly after their formation, and Travis and Tim felt they needed to add new lifeblood to their band. So, they added guitarist/vocalist Shane Bazinet, a singer/songwriter who's tastes are as diverse as his voice was powerful, to the band. The band went without a name for quite some time, simply performing under Shane's name, backing him up as a solo artist. The addition of bassist/keyboardist Ray Lavoie also helped to fill out the band's lush sound. The band's first real break came this summer as they had entered the Bell Park Youth Concert Series. Though the band did not win the grand prize of studio time, equipment, and radio airplay, the experience gained them exposure to a wider audience, and their songs are beginning to get well-known. Unfortunately, Shane left the band due to schedule conflicts, and his upcoming college life. The band decided not to just pack it up and leave it though, and regrouped under the name "The Crayola Mishap". Though Shane's songs were written more in the pop/rock vein, Travis' prog-rock influences are more upfront on the band's post-Bazinet material, and the band's love of the genre is no longer hidden. The band also gets to exploit a heavier, more riff-based sound than Shane's lush chord-based rock and roll, giving the band a decidedly heavy-metal edge. New songs like "Walk Beside Me" and "In Loving Memory Of..." show the band's new, heavier vibe, while songs like "The Green-Yellow Looks More Like Yellow-Green Than The Yellow-Green Looks Like Yellow-Green" and "Galactic Sentence" show Travis' more psychadelic prog-rock flavors. But rather than discard the songs the band wrote during Shane's tenure as vocalist, the band decided to keep his arrangements, and perform them as well, such as the aforementioned "Galactic Sentence".

The band is currently in search of a new lead vocalist, which they may have found in local singer/guitarist Kory Punkkinnen. His love for bands like Metallica, Nirvana, and The Foo Fighters will bring a new facet of diversity to the band, giving the band an even heavier edge than before, without neglecting the classic rock vibe of his own songs like "California" and "Hotel Hell".

Will the future be bright for The Crayola Mishap? We'll just have to wait and see...
