Since 2001 The Checkers have become a driving force in the New Jersey punk rock scene. As a 3 piece band (with once a second guitarist), influences including The Ramones, Screeching Weasel, Green Day, and The Queers, they have become a band that stands out from other acts in the area. After releasing their self titled E.P. in 2003, the Checkers began playing live to packed halls in the area, including Katmandu, where they had the highest score in the history of Katmandu's Battle of the Bands. Playing with such nationally known acts as the River City Rebels, Hub City Stompers, King Django, The Arsons, and the Pennyroyals, The Checkers have proved themselves to be a strong New Jersey Punk Rock band. The Checkers recorded their first and last full length CD in August '06. It is available for purchase.
