The Chalet is a 5 piece band hailing from the Denver CO. Formed in August of 2006 by former members of short-lived punk band Zany guitarist Pip and drummer Brian got together with guitarist Enrique to formed FireForScareCrow. Eventually they found a new vocalist in Jordan (As Ruins Falls) and changed their name to The Chalet. As the 4 band members began sledging through all the normal problems of a band start-up, the biggest obstacle was finding the last and final member. After a few bassists had came and gone they eventually found Billy (Jim Starr, Perfection is a Myth) to be their permanent bassist.

Their music can be described as a mix of hardcore, progressive and metal. Similar bands that come to mind would be Misery Signals, Shai Hulud, and From a Second Story Window. One thing is for sure for the boys of The Chalet would rather not worry about what genre theyre put in but would prefer to focus more on composing a story with each song they write.

The band recently released their first E.P. titled The Distance Covered with Absinthe Audio. It packs 6 unique and intricately composed songs ranging from heavy break downs, complex leads, and melodic rhythms. Each one bares a different feel and depth but retains the essence that is The Chalet. Fused by frantic changes and lack of repetition in their songs along with vocals that range from low metal growls and high screams The Distance Covered will appeal to any fan.

Much Love and Respect

Reviews:

When The Chalet first booked studio time with me back in May 07, I wasnt sure what to expect. I had heard their previous band, fireforscarecrow, and to be honest I wasnt impressed. But i knew better than to assume that The Chalet would sound anything like FFS and by the time we finished tracking "OMG", I think it is safe to say that i am now a HUGE fan of The Chalet. By early July , we had tracked all of the songs that would become their debut EP, The Distance Covered.

Tecnincally, the EP can be classified as "hardcore", but the cd shows such a staggering amount of creativity and originality that it seems unfair to lump it into such a basic category. The Distance Covered features an array of constantly changing music. My personal favorite track is "The Struggle", which kicks in at full force, but by the middle of the song, the music transitions into a beautiful melodic section with some of the best guitar work ive heard in the Colorado scene in quite a while. From the opener "I Think We've Had this Conversation Before" to the melodic closer "OMG", The Distance Covered is 6 tracks of brutal yet beautiful hardcore.

Lets face it, the Colorado hardcore scene has become stale and redundant. Its refreshing to find a band like The Chalet, who from Day One have cared more about having a good time and creating music, than about trendy clothing and popularity. Colorado bands take note: THIS is what real, heartfelt hardcore sounds like. Dont expect any of that "dancecore/ synth pop" trendy crap from these boys.

For Fans of: Misery Signals, Shai Hulud, and HeavyHeavyLowLow.
