The Bolts – Music Connection Magazine Review of the live show The Players: Addam Farmer, bass, vocals; Heath Farmer, guitar, vocals; Austin Farmer, keyboard, vocals; Matt Champagne, drums; Ryan Kilpatrick, guitar, keyboard, vocals. Material:Straight out of California’s Orange County, The Bolts are a young band (ages 17-21) consisting of three brothers and two friends. Their music is high-energy modern rock-dance, with influences like the Killers, the Strokes and My Chemical Romance. Their sound also includes Beach Boys-style vocal harmonies. Some of the catchy tunes in the Bolts’ set include “She Don’t Know What She Means,” a strong rockin’ piece of material, and “Till the Day I Die,” a pop/rock radio friendly feel-good song. Musicianship: Tight and well rehearsed, all the members of the band are proficient at their instruments and can sing as well. In fact, the three Farmer brothers take turns singing lead while playing their respective bass, guitar and keyboards. Each of the boys has a slightly different vocal technique. That explains their engaging harmonies, which are raw yet blend pleasantly. Guitarist Kilpatrick plays a rockin’ yet melodic guitar and is multitalented with his vocal and keyboard abilities. Combining energy with dynamic percussion, Champagne balances the entire Bolts’ sound. Performance:The Bolts’ energy was off the Richter scale. The guys hit the ground running as they performed to a near capacity house of enthusiastic, mostly young, female fans. In fact the audience began screaming loudly even before the show began as the boys were on stage doing a last minute sound check. All the band members come from households whose families are in the music business, and it is evident they feel right at home on stage. Though the Farmer brothers were the standouts, taking turns singing lead, the entire bands vigor and intensity was equally displayed. Summary: What sets the Bolts apart from other bands is that each member is front man material. They perform a variety-blended style that appeals to a wide audience and it rocks. With this winning combination, failure is not an option. ---Anne O’Neary, Music Connection Magazine Aug 30
