2005 was an exciting year for Jeremy Houtsma. This was the year that lead singer and guitarist for The Black Tie Affair finally recorded and got out his music to the masses. 3 years ago Houtsma left his home and band Classified in New Jersey to attended college at ORU in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Houtsma had no band to write music with so he decided to write music on his own. After moving back to New Jersey in 2005, Houtsma played his first show in Long Island, New York opening up for Edison Glass (EMI/CMG records). A few days after the show Joe Morin, of Edison Glass, approached Houtsma about recording a demo. Morin eagerly expressed how impressed he was with Houtsmas music. What could Houtsma do but jump at the chance and in 2004 he hit the studio with Edison Glass as his backing band. He decided to go under the name The Black Tie Affair. With much acclaim the EP Winter Nights hit listners ears in early 2005 and attracted listeners everywhere but something was missing.
Almost a year later after playing solo shows around the Philadelphia area, while at college at Rowan University, Houtsma got in contact with Mike DeMarco (formerly of the band Exit 157). They wanted to take the music of The Black Tie Affair to a new level by going full band. Houtsma got in contact with Jon Garofoalo and John Dracey to play drums and guitar and they started practice in early 2006. The result was a chemistry that could not be duplicated. If youre looking for plain Rock and Roll you have it in The Black Tie Affair. Come to a show, put on your best and attend The Black Tie Affair.
