Whos idea was this?

I can understand why Phoenix was named after a creature that keeps burning up. Someone told me that it was 116 Fahrenheit, or shitloads celcius today. What I can't understand is this: the pioneers of the old west, with their wagons and their horses, bravely battle the elements, valiantly defend themselves against hostile natives (or callously wipe out a peaceful indigenous species, depending on your history books) and travel in a strange land for months, even years, before coming to a place with temperatures that would make a snake sweat, no natural shelter, no obvious supply of fresh water and precious little vegetation. At this point, one of the leaders stops, ties his horse to one of the sturdier looking shrubs, takes a good look around and says "This looks good, let's stop here." I, for one, would have slit the bastard's throat.

I guess it's either my version of events or all the horses dying and the poor buggers having to make the best of a bad job. Either way, here we are.

I think I hear Chupacabras howling in the distance..

A new definition

It is hot. H - O - T. We're in Phoenix, Arizona, and I don't think I've ever experienced heat like this. This is our eighth date on the Vans Warped tour 2007, America's favourite corporate-sponsored keepin'-it-real hardcore punkfest. They gave us free Vans. All the shows have gone great so far. I'm probably jinxing us, but we seemed to have left the curse of the technical difficulty at Heathrow airport. No one knows who we are out here, so the only way to judge how we're going down is seeing how much the crowd grows from the start to the end of the set. The average seems to be that it's multiplying by ten, which is awesome. I think I'm warped tour's only flute player! We're playing at 1.15pm today - the hottest part of the day, fun fun fun. Our stage is half of an enormous stage in a covered outdoor ampitheatre. The other half of the stage is - ahem - another stage.

I keep seeing Owls..perhaps it's just the heat, but someone seems to be going to great efforts to hang 18"-tall Owls up in hard-to-reach places. There's an Owl perched on air vents 30 feet up on each side of the stage today, watching proceedings. In Salt Lake City the pair were hanging from the underside of a grandstand, at least 20 feet up. Mike seems to think it's the Illuminati making their presence known. I suspect it's someone fucking about with a pair of plastic Owls.

Bus call tonight is 10pm, a little earlier than usual. Everyone needs to be on their buses by sundown as there's been a Chupacabra warning and those things don't fuck about. Darn Goatsuckers, ruining our barbecue plans.
