In the Summer of 2005, three friends were hanging out in the kitchen of Emrys McMahon's comfortable Ricefields abode. While enjoying food and chocolate milk, Ian Dillinger began sliding Emrys's dog around on the floor.
"Why don't we write a song about how dogs slide on wood floors?" He asked. Liking the idea of a sarcastic jam-band, Jay and Emrys, the other two friends present, immediately joined. In need of an instrument to play the melody, they asked their bassist, formerly of Natural High (which Emrys and Jay had also been part of) to join the Kings of Loin (a take on the name Kings of Leon, which would be playing in a local venue later that week). After some songwriting, they decided to change their name to the Artichokes. Now they practice rather often and spend their free time not doing drugs.
