NY, NEW YORK the1shanti and Marko Dutta kicked off their nationwide summer tour and mixtape, New Calcutta, July 1 at Club Glo in Houston, Texas.
The ongoing tour and mixtape are the collaborative vision of Flatbush Junction Recordings, hip urban clothing company Desi Threads and New York-based Komposit Entertainment. Together the three companies are fusing a trendsetting sense of fashion and groundbreaking sound in music to take South Asian culture in new directions. "The goal is to integrate eastern heritage into the western world through designing clothing that is truly unique. While the1shanti deals with mixing the music together from the two cultures, we are doing the same thing with fashion," Desi Threads Pankaj Patel said.
The next Flatbush Junction/Desi Threads/Komposit event will feature the1shanti and percussionist Vishal Kanwar on July 7 at BOSSA Lounge in Washington DC. Next, the1shanti will team up with New York DJ Jay Dahbi at Katra (katranyc.com) in New York City. All guests will receive a copy of the New Calcutta mix cd, a buzzworthy collection of summer jams in anticipation of the1shantis fall release of India Bambaataa. Guests can also look forward to Desi Threads clothing giveaways.
"Flatbush Junction, Desi Threads and Komposit are working together toward giving the South Asian market a long overdue makeover from gear to the records DJs are droppin and even the events they drop em at," the1shanti (the1shanti.com) said.
"It's time for the key influencers and tastemakers in the South Asian American urban experience to band together and take responsibility and harness their power to progress the scene in unison, rather than worry about lining their own pockets all the time." said Jay Gatzby of Komposit Entertainment.
The mix cd can also be downloaded in mp3 format for free at www.desithreads.com. This fall, the1shanti will embark upon a worldwide promotional tour for India Bambaataa, supported by Flatbush Junction/Desi Threads/Komposit.
