"My impression of Sugar Glyder left me thinking that these guys were crazy! They gave off great vibes which the crowd definitely picked up on. At the end of their set, the crowd was yelling "One more song, one more song! A distinctive experimental/indie/post-progressive sound that reminded me of an odd combination of Muse, Acid Mothers Temple, dredg, and the Blues Traveler. Extraordinary!" ---Nineronline.com-
Sugar Glyder has somehow managed to capture all of the great things that make up the indie rock genre and then add a little something to it which makes it very hard to step away from. "Chances Are" is probably my favorite. It has a very slow and mysterious feeling to it's lyrics and music, leading up to an upbeat chorus which literally makes me think "Wow". One thing is certain, Sugar Glyder definitely deserves more attention than they are getting.

Sugar Glyder, on the other hand, has all the tools for the genre and then some. They bring talent and dedication to their music. It's only a matter of time before this band will be picked up by a label.
Charlotte-based rockers Sugar Glyder have been honing their writing and playing chops in the area for the past few years. It shows.
-Divakar Shukla (106.5)-
However, the sound these guys and girl make is not ordinary its rather extraordinary.
-The University Times (UNC Charlotte)-
âBut flowery, shoegazer guitar, stylistic shifts,
original arrangements and Cory Lambertâs drumming
push Sugar Glyder beyond the pack. Rating:4.5/5â
-(Courtney Devores- The Charlotte Observer)
âWe Cracked the Sky is essentially eleven tracks
of pure bliss for your listening pleasure.
They passionately play their own innovative and
very honest music which you cannot help but
feel apart of. Rating: 9.0/10â
-(www.themusicappraisal.net)
âSomewhere amongst a saturated sea of
student bands, all sounding alike, Sugar Glyder
stands out above the rest. The band, composed
of UNCC students past and present, offers music
that is both dynamic and dramatic. Each band member
is involved in every aspect, from music, lyrics to
merchandise and artwork.â
[Allison Townsend-The University Times (UNC Charlotte)]
Melodically aggressive, and intimately honest,
Sugar Glyder exists to consistently interject their
own personal concoction of innovative sound into
the starving veins of the art form known as music.
Forming in late 2002, near the small town of
Waxhaw, original collaborators Chris and
Daniel starting playing music together.
Once the addition of Cory and Emily came to
pass in late 2003, belonging and purpose slowly
pushed them into writing their own music.
These components, eventually rematerializing
into full length songs, became the binding contract
between these four individuals. They are not only
song writers, they are listeners. Nearly four years
later, this unit is working to fight for all that is
wholesome and self-sacrificing in the realm of the
music industry.
Sugar Glyder first released two demos CDs
"Learning to Burn" (2003)
"Live Like the Last" (2004)
In 2006 Sugar Glyder released their EP,
"The Unsaid and the Obvious." Expanding while
experimenting Sugar Glyder crafted a CD they
were finally proud of.
On 4-19-08 Sugar Glyder Released their new full length album,
"We Cracked the Sky."
This is by far, the most ambitous music the band has written!
They can not wait to get it out to as
many people as possible!!!
2008 holds many changes in store.

NinerOnline UNCC Show Review
Current mood: grateful
Category: Music
Hey we stumbled on this online...
Thanks Jesse!...whoever you are...
Here is the actual artical (our section is BOLD and Underlined)...
318 hosts impressive local talent
Jesse Bikman
Issue date: 8/20/07
Friday August 17, UNC Charlotte student organization 318 hosted a free concert in the After Hours of the Cone Center. And well, if you didn't hear about it, you seriously missed out.
318 is a campus sponsored organization which seeks to expand the fan base of local musicians by planning concerts on the UNCC campus. Considering that the Campus Activities Board does not host 318's events, it was amazing how large the turnout was. From my estimates, 100 to 150 people showed up. The show started at 6 p.m. and continued until 10 p.m., giving each band around an hour to set up and perform songs. In case you're wondering what bands played, the artists, in order of performance, were Christopher Kincaid, Sugar Glyder, Mona Ray and The Sammies. All of whom were composed of present or recent UNCC students.
I thought Christopher Kincaid was a pretty great opening band. I brought a friend with me who had never before attended a concert and he was quite impressed, telling me he was going to buy their CD as soon as he possibly could. The sort of sound Christopher Kincaid carries is similar to the music of Lovedrug, with meaningful emotive rock songwriting and great dynamic vocals.
My impression of Sugar Glyder left me thinking that these guys were crazy! Three quarters through their first song their microphone shorted out and the band had to quit playing and fix their set. Rather than just go on to the next song though, they were champs and started the song over completely, triumphantly exclaiming "Here's the same song but all the way through!"
Out of all four bands that played, I'm sure this was my favorite. They gave off great vibes which the crowd definitely picked up on. At the end of their set, the crowd was yelling "One more song, one more song!" But due to time constraints they had to get off the stage and were unable to fufill the requests of an encore. They had a distinctive experimental/indie/post-progressive sound that reminded me of an odd combination of Muse, Acid Mothers Temple, dredg, and the Blues Traveler; not to mention sharply ethereal guitar solos which I found extraordinary. I enjoyed their performance so much I bought their CD.
It took me a song or two to wrap my head around the band Mona Ray, but once I did, wow! They had awesomely fluid instrumental roles showcased by the lead singer and guitarist swapping instruments. The show started with the lead singer playing keyboards, but after the first song the lead guitarist and singer reversed instruments. It was a striking display of instrumental proficiency, with harmonic chord infused jams that were really fun to listen to. They didn't sound like any artist I'm familiar with but if I had to describe them, I'd say they were a happy mix of folk, indie, rock and emo.
Regarding The Sammies all I have to say is, oh man these guys were fun! I really loved how their drummer and their rhythm guitarists were both vocalists. It made for a very innovative approach to the unique music they make. I noticed when these guys were playing the audience had the most foot tapping going on. The Sammies had strong bass lines, giving their songs the oomph they needed to border on being punk rock but all the while being good old southern rock at the same time. They reminded me of some sort of mix between the Vines and Led Zeppelin but with their own special flair thrown in too. I was so impressed I bought their CD too.
Don't forget about the club that made this all happen. You can visit 318 on Wednesday, August 22 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. by the Belk Tower during the Week of Welcome student organization showcase.

..> Sugar Glyder - The Unsaid and the Obvious (EP)
Published: March 31, 2007
When first listening to Sugar Glyder's "The Unsaid and the Obvious" I had absolutely no idea what to expect. As soon as the first song "John Henryism" began, I knew I was going to fall in love with this CD. Sugar Glyder has somehow managed to capture all of the great things that make up the indie rock genre and then add a little something to it which makes it very hard to step away from.
The second song on the CD "Chances Are" is probably my favorite. It has a very slow and mysterious feeling to it's lyrics and music, leading up to an upbeat chorus which literally makes me think "Wow".
Another great notable song on the CD is "The Lines" which is the slowest song on the CD but still manages to be incredibly catchy, and has managed to get itself stuck in my head more than once. "We Survive On Stars" is the song I would choose if I had to pick one song to represent the entire disc. It succeeds it giving you a taste of all that Sugar Glyder is about, but leaves out some of the special moments that can only be felt from listening to the CD in it's entirety.
It's hard to compare this band to another band, since I can't really think of a band that sounds a lot like them. The closest one I can think of is a band called "Naked" that released one now out-of-print CD around 1997 which probably very few people have heard. Even then, I would not say that Naked and Sugar Glyder are very similar bands, just certain aspects of the songs remind me of each other. One thing is certain, Sugar Glyder definitely deserves more attention than they are getting. Prior to listening to the CD, I had never even heard of the band, and after listening I am convinced that this is the kind of music that could be successful even in the mainstream.
The songs on the CD are all similar enough that Sugar Glyder never gets away from what they are good at, but the songs are different enough so that the CD does not get boring. Each song brings something unique to the table, be it the story that it tells, the feeling you get from the music as you listen, or something else.
If you are into such bands as The Early November or Straylight Run, I think you would really like this CD. This band doesn't quite sound like them, but it is somewhere in that area. The band definitely has a much more mature sound to it than a lot of the music out there today which I do feel will make this album appeal to a slightly older audience as well as young people who decide to listen to it. Overall, "The Unsaid and the Obvious" is a very good cd that all types of people will likely be able to enjoy.
