Stoned Emotion formed in the spring of 2005. The group is led by singer/songwriter and lead guitarist Phil Dudden. Phil is joined by acoustic guitar player Jeff Hamm, bassist Karl Christopherson and drummer Charlie Briggs. The Colorado-based quartet features an accessible rock groove that draws comparisons to My Morning Jacket, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson Browne, Todd Rundgren, John Mayer and Pete Yorn, among others. The band's eponymous debut CD is a collection of songs inspired by sweet love. Dudden has penned hundreds of catchy, hook-laden songs and those featured on this freshman disc are some of his finest.
"Phil must write a tune each day and all of them should be heard," says Hamm. "His guitar is always with him." Jeff met Phil in 2003 and continue to arrange and unleash Phil's voluminous stash of lyrical and melodic gems. The SE rhythm section knowingly leaves plenty of room to get the words across, but also unleashes intricate chops that enhance the instrumental portions.
In addition to Christopherson's driving bass playing, he also operates one of Denver's most heavily attended private clubs that regularly rotates both live bands and DJs. Karl has also played with Denver bands Raw Creation and Jesus Kneivel.
Briggs founded his own bands, The Garage Doors and Fringe Element, and has manned the kit for many of Colorado's greatest groups as a hired gun.
Dudden and Briggs have played together for many years and have shared the stage with loads of nationally known artists. Both are members of the six-piece rock outfit Electric Side Dish. ESD is usually classified as a jamband and often stretches that classification by melding musical styles with ease. Four of the current members of ESD (including Phil and Charlie) toured relentlessly as part of the band Chautaqua in the '90s and now continue to delight audiences with their talent in the Dish.
