Stairway began after being influenced by the NWOBHM era.
Kingsway Music signed Stairway to record two tracks as part of the compilation album White Metal Warriors, 'Last Ship Home' which featured the tracks: 'Anybody There?' and 'Walk Away'.
1992 began with Stairway recording their debut album for Kingsway Musics Edge Records. 'No Rest : No Mercy', was released in May 1993 and was produced by Paul Hodson, (later to work with Bob Catley of Magnum and Hard Rain ); with art work by the renowned album cover artist, Rodney Matthews (Asia ,Magnum,)
'No Rest : No Mercy' was released in Japan later that year and debuted in the Japanese Import Charts at number 48. The album created a great deal of interest for Stairway in Japan, and the band conducted an interview with the famous Japanese HM magazine BURRN! News of Stairway gained momentum and the band gave further interviews to magazines in the US and Europe.

Following fans requests for a new album, recording began in earnest in 1998 and Stairways second album, 'Bleeding Heart' was independently released in May 1999. This increased the success that 'No Rest : No Mercy' had previously gained the band.
Stairway began recording their third album in 2001, and after much anticipation and expectation, 'On Hallowed Ground' was independently released in 2002.
Following up on this success, the band featured on an un-signed bands contest by AOR Dreamzones.com which they duly won with 38% of the vote! This followed by having the track 'Under the Gun' chosen to feature on a compilation CD released by American Label MIB Music, which was released World Wide in 2003.
Further to calls for their first album, Stairway, in 2005, signed an exclusive deal with Retroactive Records in the USA to re-release 'No Rest : No Mercy' World Wide as a Limited Edition 1000 copies.
Late 2005 into early 2006, Stairway began recording their 4th CD ' The Other Side of Midnight' a disc of pure Power Metal and is now available from the band's Label Store at www.stairwaymusic.co.uk and from http://cdbaby.com/cd/stairway and maybe the album that puts Stairway on the musical map for real!
