How to Slow-Down Music

blog post
If you are a singer like me you’ve probably wanted to slow down a recording you heard so that it could be easier to sing along to. I know I have. It turns out that there are programs made especially for slowing down MP3 and other sound tracks. For example, Pitch Switch is an easy to use program that can slow down MP3s, WAV files, M4A (iTunes) and more. Once you buy the software you can use it to slow down any number of number of tracks. Using it is simple, you just load your MP3 file and adjust the tempo slider to speed it up and slow it down. It doesn’t change the tone which is incredible! The speed (BPM) is displayed in the lower right hand part of the window so you can change it to a specific tempo if you want.

Pitch Switch can also adjust the pitch of an audio file too. You can raise and lower the key of your MP3 files by a semitone at a time. It’s really cool because you can change the key as the music is playing back.

Finally, I found that you can save your slowed down MP3s with Pitch Switch so you can put them back on your iPod or record them to CDs. I’ve found Pitch Switch to be extremely useful and I strongly recommend it. There is a free trial available on their website at www.pitch-switch.com.
