If theres one thing that sets us apart, its that were made up of five guys who are as serious about our academic pursuits and careers as we are about music. The challenges that this creates have forced us to push ourselves beyond our individual comforts and limitations. Our common ground, however, has always been the strong bonds of friendship and a collective passion for music.
-The Past -
Like most other bands, we started out by playing various gigs, gaining exposure while attempting to make a name for ourselves. There came a time when we decided a change was on the cards. We worked hard on producing demos but major record labels all seemed to concur - they were no longer interested in signing local acts as it was simply not cost effective. We were in quite a dilemma, and there seemed to be no clear way forward. After much thought and deliberation, we arrived at the conclusion that we would work towards independently producing our debut album. With that we began looking around for help and tips from anyone and everyone who had anything to offer.
-The Unlikely Alliance-
As fate would have it, a chance meeting with Malaysian R&B artiste & producer Reshmonu saw the beginning of our unusual partnership. We shared the stage at a college function, and I went up to introduce myself afterward. Encouraged by his friendly demeanor, I took the chance to pass him our demo, in the hopes that he would pass it on to the industry folk. A week later I received a surprise call from the man himself expressing keen interest in producing the album. A few teh tariks later, Reshmonu was on board, and we set out recording the tracks that would become our new sound. As an added twist, the crucial period in which the bulk of the recordings were done saw our members spread out in different countries pursuing studies, to the extent that we were almost never together in the same town or country. It was a challenging period, and as we opened ourselves to new possibilities, we began to grow in our outlook and creative output.
- The Debut Album -
The album consists of 11 songs, including 2 Bahasa Malaysia tracks. Since we have already broken away from the stereotypical mould of a rock band by collaborating with an R&B producer, we thought to ourselves; why not break the language barrier as well?
The focal point of this album would have to be the emotional quality of the lyrics, which touch on various themes such as faith, the occurrence of rape, the loss of a loved one, the tragedies of war, and of course love and relationships. It would be hard to pigeon hole this album into a specific genre of music. The songs were deliberately left varied to showcase the versatility of the band as well as to provide an accurate reflection of the bands growth and development as songwriters in the past few years.
- The Here and Now -
Its been an uphill climb for us, but were proud to say our debut album is finally complete. Our only hope is that people out there will enjoy the music as much as we have. The next few months will see us doing all we can to share our music with the world, so keep an ear on the ground, keep your eyes open, and we hope to see you soon.
