The emotions and experiences of serving fourteen months in Iraq is the foundation for Silent Mournings aggressive, brutal, relentless and original sound. Silent Mourning formed in early 2005 when vocalist Steve Alvarez, Sergeant in the United States Army, returned from his service overseas. Together with drummer Jay Dufour and rhythm guitarist Ron Giantonio, the three began to formulate what would become Silent Mourning.
Silent Mourning is not your typical hardcore metal band. There is a strong message being told in the music and it is the bands mission to have their words heard. Their sound is progressive and experimental. But one thing will always remain the same: the energy and passion that makes Silent Mourning the future of the metal music scene.
It was quickly decided that while mixed with a hardcore sound that encompasses ruthless breakdowns, harmonized guitars, and a hard pulse, Silent Mourning would tell Alvarezs stories. The additions of lead guitarist Paul Jacovino and bassist John Smigel were the final pieces that brought the vision of Silent Mourning to life.
What is it like to be on the frontlines of combat? Listen to Bloodlines. What is it like to lose your friends in battle? Listen to Reach Out. What is it like to have experienced death and war and then come home to start a family? Listen to Truth and Life. What is it like to sacrifice everything you have to go off and fight a war, then return home to face disgust from someone close to you. Listen to Shadow of Hate. This is Silent Mourning.
Silent Mourning is based out of central Connecticut and regularly tours the region, working towards national recognition. This year, Silent Mourning recorded their debut album Ratio 1:1.6.
Released: August 2006
