SHY GUY AT THE SHOW

According to Thomas Effing, a character in Paul Austers novel Moonpalace, every human being is in need of the moon for self-localisation. In other words, the moon, an external factor, is the sole source of identity for man.
Music is our identity.
Without it we would be lost, confused, staggering blindly through the world, not knowing where we are or what we are heading for.
Shy guy at the show consists of six friends, influenced by various forms of art and music and we are all trying to create a synthesis of these influences, we are all searching for a new form of inspiration, satisfaction and communication through our music.
It is our attempt to create something new, to remain flexible, to find our own and genuine form of expression which is distinctive and independent.
We all love music and feel influenced by bands such as Interpol, Archive, The Velvet Underground, Tiger Lou, The Editors and The National without simply copying the style and the sound of these bands.
However shy guy at the show is much more for us than just a band. It is our attempt to breath sense into life and to find a momentary stay against confusion through music and our spending time together.
Major influences on our songwriting and artistic conception which is dominated by clear-cut structures and anti-ornamental designs are writers of Modernism such as Ezra Pound, Wallace Stevens, Ernest Hemingway or William Carlos Williams.
Nevertheless, we keep reminding ourselves not to overdo the search for sense in the daily chaos of this world. We then, in a more or less postmodern way, accept this chaos, see ourselves as a product of chaotic forces and thematise such topics in our songs. Topics so cruel and senseless that you have to laugh about them in order not to cry.
A whole universe of feelings is expressed through shy guy at the show, reaching from Jonas to Sebastian, from Frankfurt to Karlsruhe, from Carsten to David, from Kaiserslautern to Leimersheim, from Sebastian to Boris, from Heidelberg to Rlzheim.
It is the bond tying us together.
