"Somewhere in 2005, She Could Be King came together in its entirety. All of the boys in the band wanted something engaging and authentic. We were all itching to work and to play. We all had instruments, and insecurities, and emotions, and shortcomings, and innovations. The result was music that reflected our personalities and our experiences, music that was cynical while begging forgiveness, aggressive yet vulnerable. It reflects everyone weve met on the road, in our daily lives, or simply in passing. We play music that New Jersey taught us. We play music that everyone we ever met, every person who smiled at us on the street, or shook our hands, or kissed our cheeks, or pushed us down, should hear. They wrote our music, those people who we saw everyday or only once. All of their faces, every late breakfast, every night spent on the floor, every horrible car stereo, and every sing-a-long is buried deep in our music. We are a self-described melting-pot. Not like the melting-pot that is America -- way more delicious than that. Spicier, much more self-depreciating, and much more apt to listen to Morrisey or MC5. We dress worse than most Americans, and we also try to think about our bills a lot less than other Americans. There is no separation of music and life for the band. Every minute we spend together is a minute we spend doing something that we love. We can tell you how many times weve broken a string, smashed a key, split a stick, destroyed our voices, or cracked a cymbal. Matty Thomson beats the skins, Jeff Beck plays the bass. We have two guitarists, Dan Gosnell and Rob Connors, respectively. Forrest Looker plays keys, and Brian Burdzy conveys the message. Everyone sings. Everyone plays whatever instrument they feel like playing. It never gets old, it never gets boring, and no one ever gets enough sleep. She Could Be King was raised on New Jersey. All of us remember the first show we went to, and all of us remember the first show we ever played. We all remember our first loves, our last ones, and all the girls in between. Every night of drinking, driving, bumming, trying, succeeding and failing; they all weigh the same. New Jersey taught us all that every night, fireworks."
