Alternative / Christian / Rock
Hey Everyone, Welcome to my site!
Some of you may know me personally, some of you may not...
What most people do know about me is that from the time I was 4, a guitar was in my hand and music in my veins.
I started out plucking the strings on my Dad's old Ibanez, when I was 5... I was given my very own acoustic.
Born in Collingwood, Ontario in May of 1984, I found life on the go early. With my Family, we moved 18 times in 18 years, from Ontario to British Columbia in 1990, To Guatemala in 1993 for a missions trip that at the early age of 8, would change the way I looked at life, and friendship forever. We found Alberta in 1997, and ended what I would call my childhood journey in a small suburban town just west of Edmonton in 2001.
My parents became Christians in 1986, so being surrounded by Christianity was pretty much all I've ever known... Albeit my family wasn't of the traditional cut, in an age where the Idea of "Christian Rock" was not the mainstream of most churches, we listened to heavy Christian rock music with pointed lyrics and blaring guitars... My Dad was always the musical fanatic cranking Bands such as the Altar Boys, Whitecross, REZ, Allies, One Bad Pig.
These Bands along with Artists like Steve Taylor and Keith Green, would become cornerstones in my life, just like every move to another place was.
Although I've always Believed in Christ, I would have to say at the Age of 10 I was at the full realization of the purpose of the Gospel message, and I adopted it into my life.
At age 12 we were living in the BC coastal town of Gibsons, Involved heavily in a local church youth group, we would stay late and sing worship songs... never shy I would always lend my voice and guitar to the occasion. I guess someone realized that God had given me a gift in music and decided to give me one of their vintage electric guitars they purchased as new! This candy apple red Les Paul made by Harmony I still use to this day, and is in excelent shape for a guitar that's almost 37 years old.
In 1997 we were in Canmore, AB. I met a friend at my grade school who introduced me to a Christian Coffee shop that was organized by a local church as an outreach ministry. I had the opportunity of going there on saturday nights for a year and playing some of the songs I had written... at age 13, God had started to show me where he wanted me to be.
High School was a difficult time for me, as I found myself wanting more and more to start doing music now, instead of finishing school. I struggled with the Idea that if I was supposed to follow Gods call on my life, I was wasting my time in this classroom learning stuff that would never impact anything I was to do in the future. I would skip half the time, and I even dropped out one year, only to go back the next year and finish up. Even though I was in a constant tug of war with God, he always showed me opportunities to meet other fellow musicians and play wherever I could. I realize now that it was his way of showing me how to finish the little things first, before taking on the big things, something at that age I clearly wasnt ready for.
After School, I worked. I cant count how many times songs would come out of conversations about stories and tragedies of some of the young people I worked with. From broken homes, to abuse, rape, and neglect, struggling with drug addiction. I found so many people to be crying out for help. I knew God was calling me to tell their stories, and to take his message to those in need.
I'm married now, and at the point where Im trying to get prepared for his call. Im trying to organize and connect, trying to figure out where to start. This site is one of those starting points, hopefully its the beginning of a Journey that will take Jesus to wherever he needs to go.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to one of my songs and read this relatively short testimony of my life.
An album is coming soon, Please feel free to leave a few words in the comments section (you have to be signed up as a listener, so do that first.) and let me know what you think.
God Bless, and stay tuned.
