Health drinks
We were on our way to the studio, about a mile from the highway exit when the Say Whenabago ran out of gas. I'm not talking "man, we're low on gas" or "man, we should get gas soon," I'm talking we were completely out of gas.
Lucky for us we have Mark in the band, because somehow he got the van to start again -- three times -- and we coasted on fumes to the nearest gas station. While he was filling up, Mikey ran inside to use the bathroom and came out with a 30- pack of some new health drink they have called beer.
We had never heard of this drink before but as soon as we tasted it we realized it was delicious. We tried some more, then some more after that.
We set up in the studio to make some demos of our new songs and Mark played his drums and Mike played his bass, and while Zack and Maxwell and I were waiting to record our guitar parts, we tried some more of the health drink and pretty much fell in love with it.
(Side note: Right when we were about to start recording, it occurred to us that Friday was Mark's birthday. He didn't tell anybody and we all forgot. Sorry buddy. Happy birthday.)
By the end of the day, we had spent 13 hours in the studio, recorded the music for eight new songs, ate six pizzas and drank 60 health drinks. We were feeling really healthy. When we got back to Boston (Mark drove because he only had a few health drinks) Maxwell and Mike and I went to a bar, where they serve more health drinks. We had two more and then for some reason we were very tired so we all went to Maxwell's house and slept.
When we woke up Sunday, we realized that drinking too many health drinks sometimes makes you feel bad the next morning. But we had a show to play in Portland, Maine, so we took some Advil and got on with the day.
Portland is a great town, and the club that we played, The Big Easy, is a really cool room with an excellent sound engineer named Wally. We met tons of cool kids there, especially the DC-17s and their friends. It's been a long time since I saw a band have that much fun on stage, and their friends are totally nuts and awesome.
Before we played, we took a walk around downtown Portland and stopped by Bull Moose Music, the local record store. As soon as we walked in we saw something really familiar: Our album. We will never get tired of seeing our album on sale in stores. Very cool.
After eating some delicious sandwiches, we went back to the club and played and had a great time. We tried out a very very brand new song called Deception and we think everybody really liked it. Hmmm, what else happened ... we met Jassy the bartender and she bought one of our Red Sox shirts, and we met two girls named Heather and Kelly and I kept forgetting which girl was which, and then the DC-17s and their friends helped us load our gear into the trailer.
Totally awesome weekend. We can't wait for you guys to hear the new songs, and we have some really reeeeally big news to tell you about, and we will in a couple of weeks when the time is right.
Now I am off to take the shower I have needed for the past 36 hours. Seriously, I smell terrible right now. I just got home for the first time since Friday morning and I'm pretty sure my roommate just passed out from how bad I reek.
Portland rocks!
