Based in Richmond, VA, Satori has been shuffling members, refining their sound, and earning fans one at a time since 1999. With their lineup set and their fan base rabid for a studio recording, Satori's days of flying under the radar are numbered. Satori is currently playing venues throughout Virginia and recording their debut EP, to be released by Digitone Records May 4, 2004. A quick bit on the sound: Satori is loud. Dual guitars played by Dan Hurt and Joe Rapisardi balance the melodic and the dissonant, clean dreamscape and distorted mud sculpture. With styles as different as their last names, Hurt and Rapisardi deliver harmonies that lock tighter than gears in a machine. The impossibly precise rhythm section of Chris Barr's throbbing drums and Beano's agile bass sets up an ever-shifting backdrop that never drops into the background. Dan Hurt was a skilled bassist, guitarist, drummer, and trumpeter before he ever considered singing. He instinctively blends those techniques into his vocals, delivering puzzling, picture-heavy lyrics with a truly unique cadence. Every musician in Satori has the skills to demand the spotlight. But each knows how to showcase that skill while letting the song itself take center stage.
