THE LUNAR SOCIETY EP IS OUT NOW!!!

What are the catch words? Tight? Emotive? Energetic? What are the necessary cliches? A dingy basement? Up and coming prodigies? Playing from the heart? Forget them. Their use is as damaging as categorization has become. And an initial listening might make it easy to write Rocket Science off as just another emoish pop-punk group trying to be the next Blink 182, especially after hearing hook-laden ditties such as Child's Play. But to simply classify the group as a punk-pop band and then dismiss them would be a mistake, and one that upon further consideration would be obvious. It would mean ignoring the post-punk (see Bayside) songs that supply the backbone of their set, or neglecting the intricate and contemplative ballads, which offer such depth to their work (see Straylight Run). To classify them is to prepare to be wrong. Their work demonstrates how shallow labels like punk-pop, post-punk, emo, and indie are. However, that does not mean that the group lacks unity. Their personality and sound as a band are both singular and unmistakable. From Dan Livermore's machine-like, yet soulful drums to Jason McCormack's sharp, poignant guitar, from Dennis Crowley inventive and powerful basslines to Dave Emerick's wails, whispers, and croons, once you have heard them, you will know them.

Originally forming under a myriad of names with a rotating cast of members, the band Rocket Science got its start in the summer of 2001. They moved forward, changing names and/or members about every six months until the spring of 2005 when the group, then going by Mercutio, lost its guitarist and vocalist, skimming the cast to Dan Livermore on drums, Jason McCormack on guitar, and Dennis Crowley on bass, who had formed the backbone of the organization for the last 4 years. Refusing to stand still for long they soon solved the issue of vocals by recruiting expatriate charter member and scenester slut Dave Emerick.

Drawing on their own dissatisfaction with past projects and diverse musical influences, the group set off without a name, a sound, or agreement of genre. They knew only two things: it had to be good and it had to be fun.
