My name is Robbie Hazen.
I'm originally from South Florida, but northern Indiana is where I've been spending most of my time over the past few years.
I write, sing, and play music because it's a passion I've had for as long as I can remember.
If you ever see me on the street, there should be a harmonica in my back pocket.
I wear black converse all-stars because they're comfortable.
Hoodies keep me warm throughout the cold Indiana winters.
I have a girlfriend named Vicki. She's the smile that keeps me going, and I love her for all that she is.
I always have trouble ending a conversation.
Rock and Roll is not dead; sometimes it merely hides itself inside a singer/songwriter with a 12-string acoustic and a harmonica.
My mind wanders on a nearly constant basis.
I have a guitar named Delilah. She helps put my scrambled thoughts together, and speaks to me when there are no words to say.
I take in all of life's experiences and pour them out into my songs.
I'm a fan of big dreams and big dreamers.
"Remedy" is the title of my first full-band EP; some of the tracks off of the album are featured here.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon freezing my rear end off at a Cubs game. It was incredibly hard to watch due to the fact that the intense and terribly cold wind did not let up, which dried my eyes out in seconds. It was also hard to hear what was going on because my teeth were chattering so much . . .
But alas: aside from those complaints I really had a good time. The aforementioned "event" is one of several activities that seniors are able to take part in this week during what Notre Dame so brilliantly calls "Senior Week." I wonder how long it took them to come up with that name . . .
At any rate, school is officially over for everyone now. Most undergraduate students have returned home to visit friends and family, enjoy some home-cooking, and mooch off of mom and dad. Seniors (and some randoms) are the only ones left here in South Bend, and are preparing for the next stage in their careers, i.e. real-life stuff. I, for one, am happy to be able to finally relax at Notre Dame. Every time I've come up to ND it seems as though I just right into academic study, work hard for two semesters, and rush home. I've never had the chance to really take a deep breath up here and actually not have to worry about imminent tests, quizzes, homeworks, projects, etc. bogging me down and stressing me out. I feel vindicated in some weird way. It's nice.
My graduation is this weekend. Wow.
Here's to growing up,
Robbie

I did it. I'm finished with classes. No more. Holy Crap.
My undergraduate education is officially over. I'm no longer academically obligated to the University of Notre Dame. And although I should be feeling a million different emotions right now --- I'm really not. I'm still in South Bend, I'm weeks away from graduation, I have engrained into my being a collegiate-style mindset that will not falter, and I'm going out with my friends just like I've done these past four years. In a sense, not much has changed. Of course I know that once I dawn the cap and gown, all those emotions I should be feeling will reveal themselves in a very crazy way; but as for now, I'm happy in my feeling of satisfaction for a job well-done.
It's about 4pm on a Wednesday, April 30th, and I'm sitting in my room writing to you -- just in case you were wondering what part of my past you were diving into.
I'll catch you cats later.
Robbie
P.S. be my friend on facebook!

Well I hope everyone in the Midwest is enjoying the temperature change. I actually went outside today --- WITHOUT A SWEATSHIRT ON! That’s right: shirt and jeans. I’ll admit that although the sun was out, I was cold; but nonetheless, I didn’t have to run inside to add another layer before going to eat lunch. And that’s good news to me, and subsequently, news in general to you.
I have some work ahead of me that I will be doing the rest of the day, but you better believe I’m heading outside to enjoy some more chilly rays while I rock the quikies (i.e. quiksilver sunglasses => tell your friends).
I’d love to hear what the temperature is like by you.
Laters,
Robbie

Well, ladies and gents: this is the home-stretch. I’m officially two months away from graduation and am incredibly excited/freaked/exuberant/anxious/exhausted/curious/intimidated/thankful/worried/happy -- you name it, I’m feeling it. I realized yesterday while I was flying to Chicago that the flight I was taking to Notre Dame was the last plane flight I would be taking to Notre Dame as a student. Ever. Whoa.
There’s nothing else like those major moments in life that give you a swift kick to the gut, huh? Oh well . . . (*raising a tall glass*) "Here’s to Father Time!"
I am officially ’busy’ this week; I currently have two shows coming up (which I’m very excited about), am swamped with academic work, have my brother coming to visit me tomorrow (hell yeah!), and am a judge for . . . wait for it . . . IRISH IDOL 2008! That’s right, Notre Dame is holding an American Idol-style competition, and I am officially one of three judges that will be picking 10 singers who will ultimately perform live at Legends next Thursday evening. I am the only male judge, which means by default I have to sit in the middle, say nonsensical things, act like I’m drunk, repeat things my co-judges say, and be an overall disturbance to the event. What I’m saying is that I’m the Paula Abdul of the group based on seating arrangements. Oh well . . . (*raising yet another tall glass*) "Three Cheers to being the male part of a lady sandwich!!!"
Oh boy.
Let’s see if I can keep my foot out of my mouth next Thursday.
Until later nerds and nerdettes,
Robbie

I am writing to you from Central Florida. You're probably sitting in your room thinking: "Is he talking about the area within the state, or the 'University of??'" My answer to you is: yes. I am presently in Orlando typing on a computer in the library at the University of Central Florida. I am sitting in between an older gentleman who I assume is 'finally getting that degree' and a student who, like me, is writing something online. That same student is quite unlike me, though; he owns a pink water bottle that's currently hanging out with a similarly-colored fruit-juice bottle. Both of which are waiting to be picked up when he leaves. I have never understood the fascination guys had/have with pink.
It's somewhat difficult to concentrate on this journal because the two students sitting across from me are studying some sort of biology or anatomy or [enter science-subject name]. I don't know exactly what they're going over because I'm neither a science major nor a student at the University of Central Florida. YAY difficult-names-of-body-parts . . . .
I have really enjoyed my spring break so far; the first half was spent in South Florida with my family, soaking up the sun (perhaps a little too much . . .) and enjoying home-cooked food (of which I can never have enough). After the initial half came to a close, I flew up to Orlando where I am presently having a great time with my girlfriend and her friends. I am driving back home tomorrow morning, eating at my grandmother's house in the early evening, and playing a show tomorrow night at the Atmosphere Lounge. The last few moments of my break will be spent in Hollywood with family and friends, where I will be drinking up every second before I head back up to South Bend to finish my last semester at Notre Dame. Craziness.
Hope you all are enjoying right now : )
Until soon,
Robbie
