Here follows the tale of Riverside up till now.
In the summer of 2004 members Mathew Campbell (vocals, guitar), Andrew "Rusty" Halsall (vocals, guitar), Trevor Rowe (drums), and Kyle Wakeman (vocals, bass) started creating music together. After a year of writing and playing shows the band met with up and coming producer Siegfried Meier. In the Fall of 2005 they recorded the 3 song Digital EP "The Way Things Should Be" and released it to the online public for download. Throughout 2005 the foursome played as many shows as they were able to play in whatever venue they could play and kids started singing along.
Feeling it was time to move to the next step, the band began writing their first full length album "Goodbye Broadway, Hello Hollywood". They made the decision to return and work with Siegfried once again, only this time they were headed to Beach Road Studios to be the first band to record an album at his new studio. After the release of "GBHH" in 2007 and relentless touring, the band was approached by the manager of the Japanese label Bullion Records to join the label's roster and release the freshly printed album in Japan. This first record deal gave them great opportunities including filming a music video for album's single, "This One's For The Other Guy", and being able to tour parts of Canada they had never been before.
With the gaining momentum Riverside could not sit idly by and quickly began work on their second full length album "newspeak". There was no doubt that the relationship they built with Siegfried was important so they returned to Beach Road Studios once again. During the first demo sessions in Jan. '08 they realized how the writing styles had evolved and matured. After a fury of writing throughout the spring, they ended up with over 25 songs that exceeded the limits of anything the band had ever attempted before.
The final session was cut to 13 final tracks all masterminded by the writing strengths of Rusty and Matt, brought together by Kyle and Trevor's rock solid rhythm section. In July '08 the band spent over 3 weeks recording and rewriting all 13 tracks, all with a brand new approach to the process of making a record. The goal was to balk the current trend of over-produced, overly polished records, ditch the 18 guitar tracks and symphony orchestra and to strip it down to what the band really is: Just four guys playing music, for the music.
Newspeak will be available in the Fall of 2008.
