Rival State is a band that consists of the members Luke Van Hoof (Vocals), Nimal Fernando (Guitar/BV's), Sal-V Stone (Drums), Jo Einarsson (Guitar), Stefan Einarsson (Bass). These five Friends from New Plymouth now living in Auckland have joined all together with a common passion for music. Culture in this band is very wide spread from Sri Lankin to Icelandic to Dutch to Maori. All this allowing a little more influence on the personality and character of the band.

Their sound said to the least is Alternative Rock but with many different elements of other styles; including Punk, Metal, and Pop. The band doesnt like to limit themselves to a formal type of song structure, instead they explore all options to put into their music. Bringing the audience into their live performance is what they love to do. The bands dynamic stage presence as well as their energetic portrayal creates an atmosphere that is hard to take your eyes away from.

The band has recorded two singles at Studio 203 Bite The Bullet and Hold On which allows a taste of what the music is like and what to expect more of soon. In mid 2006 the band will go back into the studio to record an EP that includes seven tracks that will show all aspects of the band from their Softer side to their Heavier side.

Rival State set their goals very high with the attitude "dont wait for things to happen, make things happen". This is a band that is in it for the long haul. Rival States ultimate goal is to take their careers overseas, a temporary move in 2007 to England where they will base themselves to play many shows through the UK and Europe taking part in showing the world New Zealand music.
