Well this is going to be a temporary bio of the band. Rifles At Recess first started in August of 2001 when guitaist Chad Hughes and vocalist Robby Johnson wanted to put together a project that pushed them to write the best music and words they could produce. Things started out a little rough when we ran into trouble finding band members. To make a very long story short , the lineup ended up being Chad/guitar, Robby/vocals, Nathan Zensen/bass, Kyle Mims/drums, and Chris Dotson/guitar. Our first show was in Cleveland , TN with Evergreen Terrace. The show was a house show in some kids basement. Things went well and we impressed alot of people. After 2 or 3 shows Zensen left the band and was quickly replaced by long time friend Micheal Gordon. Shows kept coming and we kept rocking out. We put out a 4 song demo entitled "The Art Of Flying Without Sky" , which included the songs , "Custom Made Back Stabber", "No Evil Angels" , "I Died Twenty Times In 1986" , and " Heres To Broken Boys". Matt at Tribunal Records got a hold of the demo through the boys in Aria and he was very intrested in putting out a CD for us. Talk began with Tribunal and before we knew it we were booked tto play the Tribunal showcase fest in Winston-Salem, NC. Still being an unsigned band playing at record labels showcase was a very promising event for us and we excited and nervous. The show went well and Matt saw what he needed to see. After alot of discussion , Kyle decided his heart wasn't in it any longer and he went on to drum for Nashvilles' Love Is Red. He is now currently playing with Evergreen Terrace. A small break was taken to find a new drummer and to write some new material. The call was answered by Andrew Hall (The Showdown) from Johnson City , TN. He remained with us until our breakup in July of 2003. Anyhow , we went to NC to record with Jamie King at The Basement. Jamie has recorded with bands such as Between The Buried And Me, Swift, Aria and Bloodjinn. After the CD was finished being mastered it was time for RAR to take the metal on the road. We did a 2 and half week tour to the west coast with good friends The Judas Cradle , Undying and Kid Gorgeous. Upon returning from tour , several members of RAR came to the conclusion that the band just didn't fit into their future plans. Things were crazy for a while and talk about reforming came up often but no action was ever taken. Chad and Robby talked about seriously reforming the band in May of 2005 and things have been slowly developing since. Nashvilles' Perry Bean has been added as guitarist , replacing Chris Dotson. There are several people being looked at for both the drum and bass slots. New material is currently being written and we know it will make your toes curl. We are extremely excited about playing out again and are already setting our sights on some killer tours. So , just be patient and stop taking your head for granted , because when we come back, we're gonna knock the fucking thing off.
