Local band Red Romero plans to give out its EP "Pass It On" for free at its sold-out debut performance. The members of Red Romero embrace the free sharing of their music, a practice that is usually condemned by artists rather than encouraged. Concertgoers will be able to donate to the band, although it is not required.
"We're hoping that if we give the music away, people will listen to it," said Jimmie Linville, the bands vocalist and rhythm guitarist. "Take it, download it, share it, the music is yours."
The sold-out show takes place on April 19 at the Orpheum Stage Door, a premiere 300-person venue. The performance begins at 9 p.m.
The members of Red Romero did a lot of legwork to promote the concert, including hand-selling tickets and playing free shows throughout Madison. "It really is more than a full-time job," Linville said. "If artists truly put their best foot forward, it will show in their final product."
Red Romero is an eclectic, guitar-driven Indie-Rock group featuring bassist Dan Champeau, lead guitarist David Budiac, marimba player Daniel Pingrey, drummer Mike Conrardy and Linville.
Conrardy invited Linville to join the forming band after seeing him perform as a solo artist. Red Romero needed a vocalist and a songwriter to complete its lineup, and Linville's time as a soloist made him a perfect fit.
The Caleb Andrew Band and the Dane Varese Band, both local to Madison, are opening for Red Romero.
