If you dont know the story behind our name here it is. "Rebecca's Grave" is a local myth in Moncton about a witch named Rebecca Lutes.
On the Gorge Road in Moncton, just before you reach the first rock quarry, lies an out of place cement slab on the side of the road. Below the cement and dirt are the bones of Rebecca Lutes. Rebecca Lutes was a devilish witch responsible for disease and famine among the farm community set up in the area just before the 1800's.
Word has it that her evil sorceress was responsible for the disappearence of local farm animals as she used them in her black rituals. The local residents formed a mob and hung the evil woman from a tree that stood right beside where her grave now lies. After she was dead, the residents placed Rebecca in her grave facing down so that if she ever did return to life, she would find herself digging a hole straight to hell rather than back to the surface. To make sure she stayed where they put her, the residents covered her grave with cement to seal her in her eternal resting place. They breathed a sigh of relief as they had finally rid themselves of her wickedness.
They may have successed in keeping her in her grave but her influence would live on. To this day the ghost of a black cat is seen on the road beside her grave. One second it's there and the next it's gone. A house existed for a long time where her cabin once stood but has long since been abandoned and torned down. Before this house was demolished, people would say they could hear voices and other strange sounds around the cabin at night.
Was Rebecca really a witch? Is that her black cat waiting by the cement for her to return and begin again her evil terror?
