PERFUMA BIO!!! OMG!!!!
In 2005 two financially disadvantaged young men, Adam Bird (vox, guitar) and Eric Schnare (guitar) formed Perfuma after meeting through another band in which Adam played drums. The two bonded over their desire to take the new band away from the emo sound many of their peers were playing and tapped into their love of Sonic Youth, Elliott Smith, Smashing Pumpkins, and Fleetwood Mac. Soon after forming and with only a few rickety shows under its belt, Perfuma released their first EP entitled 'Humans Are Dangerous' on the now defunct label, RB Recordings. The EP was met with strong sales both online and at shows, as Perfuma steadily built a strong fan base through touring and innovative online promotion.
Perfuma's fresh perspective was apparent, as the words fluttering around after shows were consistently things like "refreshing" and "different". Those words carried Perfuma through 2006 and into 2007, helping them continue touring, writing new music, and making huge strides in winning over new fans with their different take on modern rock. The hard work began to pay off as the band played the CD Release Party for Sonic Youth's "Rather Ripped", self-released a single entitled "NEW YORK SUN" which trumped the sales of the previous EP, released a Johnny Cash cover of "FOLSOM PRISON BLUES", and were joined by new bassist Tucker. The tail end of 2007 was spent recording their debut full length "Save Yrself" which was produced by longtime supporter Jesse Cannon (The Cure, Say Anything, Chase Pagan). Dave Leto of Rye Coalition, notorious for being one of Dave Grohl's favorite drummers, took up drum duties as the band made its second appearance at Bamboozle Festival in between recording sessions, and began licensing songs for use in television and movies.
2008 has brought the completion of the new album, packed performances at two CMJ showcases, and will see the release of "Save Yrself", undoubtedly in Perfuma's own new, exciting way of doing things. All of Perfuma's past releases are now available for free download at Perfuma.NET
