Part-Time Poet is a title that Devin Smith has chosen to express what his musical aspirations really are.
With a passion for music, Devin had his eyes set on a musical career from the moment he picked up a guitar at the age of 14. He’s been a part of several musical groups, experimenting with different genres, but never finding the right “fit” for his goals. Over the years priorities have changed as Devin has found himself in the middle of several responsibilities including supporting his wife and newborn son. Music still remains such a huge part of his life, and with his family’s support, Devin still finds time to write, perform, and record on a regular basis.

Part-Time Poet is a project that Devin started in early 2004 to be a personal emotional outlet and to develop his own songwriting abilities. The name stuck but band members didn’t. The project became less of a set member group and more of a chance for Devin to work with different musicians in live settings and in the recording studio. Each year that passed would include different members bringing varying influences into the project, which would ultimately fine-tune what Part-Time Poet has come to be. Devin has always envisioned Part-Time Poet consisting of an entire band, but continues to play in coffee houses and small venues with an acoustic onslaught of raw talent, winning over almost everyone who sits through one set list.
