Papercadence started out as a summer project called "Sparrow," featuring brothers Felix (guitar) and Josiah (bass/vocals) Schlater and siblings Joel (drums) and Joy (keys/bgvs) Mapanoo. Basically, Felix's old band "Your Biggest Fan" (Gordon Van Gent), Robert Smith, Jon Capparelli, Felix Schlater, and previously Aaron Lachman) broke up, and the very young and ambitious Josiah Schlater wanted to start a band so that he could say he was in one.
So, Sparrow began and played a few shows. When the Mapanoo siblings (later to form Blindfolded Journey) said that they couldn't play with the Schlaters anymore for personal reasons, the brothers asked friend and fellow musician Matt James to hop on drums (the reverse is actually true) and they began searching for a keyboard player, preferably a girl, to take the place of Joy. Old friend Jon Capparelli happened to find a girl one day by chance (he said he just ran into her on the street) and she happened to play keys. Her name was Michelle. Michelle practiced a few times with Sparrow, who were now calling themselves "Papercadence" (Felix's idea), but things just didn't seem to be working out. So, the brothers decided to ask their old friend Robert Smith to try his shot at keys. It ended up kinda working, so Papercadence played one show with the new line-up, and decided to kick Matt James out for personal reasons. They then brought their old friend Jon Capparelli in, and the true essence and being of Papercadence was finally born.
